I think they have the classic DC (and DCUM) disease where they think a tiny bit of knowledge and a little bit of personal observation makes them an expert in anything -- Olympic sports or international dipolomacy or bridge engineering or parenting. Or they are just doing a pitch perfect imitation of people with this disease. Hitting all the notes. |
You can't tolerate people think that you are wrong, and are not changing their mind. Your feelings are truly hurt. You see it as not nice and you crave niceness. |
Well the things you care about are not as important as the extraordinarily different skills themselves to every single person who runs and judges the sport in question. So feel free to start your own gymnastics league where sticking the landing on a round off back handspring is considered more impressive than taking a small step after a round off back handspring into a double-twisting triple-flip. The reason Biles takes a step after that trick is that she has so much power and height going into it that when she lands it on the springed floor her body rebounds off the springs. Who knows -- maybe it's possible for someone else to do this trick and land it solidly without the bounce step. I'll let you know when a single other gymnast completes it in competition. You might be waiting a while. |
No I don't care if you think I'm wrong -- I just feel bad for you that you are as wrong as you are and have been schooled on how wrong you are by people who know a lot more than you and yet you persist in being wrong. I'm trying to help you! |
You don't need to feel anything. There are billions of people in the world. Some may agree with me. I actually don't care. I don't believe in collectivism, and not concerned about your saving face. You and your imaginary team of people who agree with you, are wrong. |
Sports in an authoritarian country where the govt picks you from toddlerhood as the athlete and throws you away if you don't make it is different than on a country where you have to pay to learn and compete and find sponsors. Oj and go to university too. And for many sports such as gymnastics and diving there is a difficulty multiplier so not sticking the landing on a really hard routine can get more pts then completing an easier routine perfectly. |
Given you are the only person on the planet with your opinion there are only two options here: 1) You are right and literally every other person in the world is stupid or delusional. 2) You are wrong. Good luck figuring out which one of these is a better outcome. Iconoclast. |
I can eat that Indian for lunch |
Not possible that I am the only one with this opinion. Even if it were true, not a problem with me. Your opinion is wrong. This is like "Carthage must be destroyed". I can tell you this all day. You are wrong. |
Lots of medals but not much gold. It’s really swimming that is having an embarrassingly bad competition compared to prior Olympics. |
What a compelling argument based on your personal beliefs and no actual facts. |
For the sake of argument, let's accept OP's premise as true.
Maybe it's because other countries have formal, nationally funded sports schools and, when athletes are older, essentially support them as professional athletes. Whereas here in the US we rely on families to pay from childhood on, or on the athletes to work full time to earn money for pay for their sports. My daughter is in an individual summer Olympic sport, and the amount of funding available from her federation even for athletes competing internationally is negligible. It's financially irrational, if not impossible, for middle class families to do this. Then add in NCAA rules that don't allow college athletes in individual sports to keep prize money from tournaments (there is a lawsuit now about this). |
And then they romp through track and field. They're doing better than expected. Bronze in Men's Gymnastics team final and Bronze in Women's Rugby 7s was unexpected. |
If you don't enjoy it, change the channel. There's dozens of other sports at the Olympics. There's thousands of hours of other streaming content. Just skip it. I don't get why you feel the need to sh*t on stuff that other people enjoy. It's very childish of you. |
Get the crap out of here. You obviously aren’t participating, so STFU.
