Apparently the only women asking their DH's this question has gutter level self esteem and only want to hear 10. It would never occur to me to set this type of trap on my DH.

I don’t understand this response. If my DH asked, I’d tell him he was an 11. The woman says her husband says he was making a joke. My response would make my DH laugh.

My point is that a secure woman doesn’t give a sh*t about some random 1-10 rating. So before she’s even said the words, they’ve both lost the game to her terrible self esteem.

I am not a 10. If my DH said I was, I’d know he was pandering to me. But I’d also never ASK this question bc I know I have SO MUCH VALUE that goes beyond my chest/waist/hips measurements.

Life is long, few people feel confident in their looks all the time for their whole life.

I used to feel very confident about my looks. In my 20s/30s, I didn't need anyone to buck me up about it -- I know I looked good. I got a lot of compliments from people, men were interested in me.

I became a SAHM for 2 years and then worked from home for two years after that. Now I'm heading back to an office job at 44. I feel so insecure! I am still figuring out how to dress, how much makeup to wear. It's like being a teen again. I need support to rebuild my confidence. If I asked my DH to tell me how I looked (I personally would never ask for a rating), I absolutely hope he'd just tell be how great I looked, no qualifications. It's what I need to hear for now.

People still read her column?! I am astonished. Her writing rates a 3.

LOL. No. Men don't think, let along behave that way. It would never occur to us to do something like that.

I have some news for you about your brothers . . .

Yes, some us are femme gay who engage with Carolyn Hax.

I'm relatively new to this site (several months), but I really don't get why guys would be on here. It seems to be mostly wives complaining about their husbands.

Looking for love... I all the wrong places.

This site was created anf is run by a man.

+1

I think most people are 6-7. Maybe 6-8 if I am being generous.

How could most people be above average? 5 is in the middle. Literally this makes zero sense.

This is why grade inflation is so rampant in US schools. Everyone is told their entire lives that they're special and smart. Well, sorry, not really. You're about average intelligence. Same with looks. Most people are going to be around the average, not above it or below it.

The scale is arbitrary. It doesn't matter where the average is.

Carolyn Hax not taking any of it and siding with the husband.

What world does Carolyn live in that being an "eight" is grade inflation?

What world do you live in where there are all these 8s, 9s, and 10s?

I mean I think I'm an 8 so if someone said that I was I would just say thank you. But I am not a 20yo boy so I don't rate women on a 1-10 scale.

If you were actually an 8, you would be way too busy to be on the website

Yeah. Only uggos slack off at work lol.

If she was an 8, she wouldn't be working

Maybe she likes to work? Margot Robbie is a ten and she works.

Wrong. Margot Robbie is an 8. That's what an 8 looks like. And she works for the fame and attention. I doubt there are any Hollywood actresses on here.
9s and 10s are incredibly rare. You will probably go your whole life without ever seeing a 10 I'm person

The only 10 I can think of off the top of my head is Eric Decker

9s and 10s are also only 9s and 10s for a short window in their life, too.

Angelina Jolie is still a 10!
