Girl moms need to teach their girls how to have enough confidence to say no.
And to defend themselves if some boy pushes things too far.

Both need to know Birds & Bees, sex ed, contraception, science and kindness.

Not abstinence. Not religious gobbledygook.

Fair. But men are stronger than women, as a general proposition. And women are not believed, either, as much as men. So there is a gender power imbalance here. So, yeah, boy moms need to take the lead here, imo.

I have a boy and a girl and I think it really needs to be emphasized to both how dangerous this is — girls so they know not to ask for it even if it seems sexy to them, and boys so they know not to do it. But I’ll be driving that home to my son more because a boy can always stop/not choke a girl but a girl can’t always stop or prevent the choking from happening in the moment.

I actually like kinky sex but I’m horrified by the idea that kids are thinking it’s okay or even attractive to just randomly start choking your partner. That’s unsafe and terrifying.

I am not blaming them but making it clear it is a problem for both sexes. OP was making it about boys only when both boys and girls need to be aware and parents need to speak to both.

Seriously, DID YOU READ IT?!?

Some of these girls have been seriously harmed or even died!!

So? It appears to be consensual. Blaming this on boys is sexist. And wrong.

Is it truly consensual as in something that the girls would want for themselves even if they had never been exposed to porn? Or porn-addled guys asking for it (or just doing it without asking) and then she comes to see it as an expectation/a normal thing?

I’m not blaming it on boys BTW, I’m blaming it on porn.

It’s not only porn it’s TV geared towards teens and college age.

The rate of those women who said they were between the ages 12 and 17 the first time that (strangling) happened had shot up to 40 percent from one in four.

So it went from 1 in four (25%) to 1.6 in four (40%). Not so "shocking" when it’s not written to be misleading.

No sorry, that IS shocking that 40% of 12-17yr olds are getting choked during sex.

Yes, the same deluded girls drinking too much and telling boys they love anal. Girls that are desperate for male approval and hoping random hook-ups turn into Mr. Darcy.

Yup. Weird how people don’t understand that our disgusting porn-ified culture influences girls, too.

Unless you are an absolute freaking weirdo, no girl *naturally* wants anal sex, and no girl *naturally* wants to be GD choked. This is porn influence on a bunch of idiot boys and insecure girls.

That's not the stat. It's 40% out of the 2/3 that were choked at all. So 27% of surveyed girls/women.

The amount of woman on woman misogyny in this thread is astounding.

The whole thing, but the part starting at "freaky" for this thread.

Motorcycling is more dangerous than erotic asphyxiation.

Some things that feel good are also dangerous.

It's not brainwashing, it's human nature.

Obviously consent is essential and people should be careful.

Just stop. It’s absolutely brainwashing. The average woman does not want to be choked, EVER. I’d like to think the average man also has no intrinsic desire to choke women.

And that’s exactly why I think this is the current pearl-clutcher worry of the moment. Our kids are smarter, more compassionate, kinder, more sexually conservative, than we think they are, and what they statistically should be.

Kids are not kinder and definitely not more sexually conservative. Are there plenty of weird antisocial kids that stay home all weekend on electronics? Yes. But the normal social ones are no different than previous generations. What’s scarier is the date rape drugs.

Kids are actually more extreme. There are fewer kids having normal sex, and more kids into kinks or no sex at all.

This. I teach 18-22 year olds about communication in relationships and many of them have said piv sex is out.
