With all the scouting they are doing, it's hard to fathom how they selectively keep missing the exceptional, once in a lifetime generational talents of DCUM parents kids.

Which top clubs with top talents at U12 and U13 are so elusive in the small DMV pool that DCU can't find them and aren't told about them?

A bit defensive r we? I mean maybe it was just a bad day for the kids. It was also windy so that might have contributed to the ball going all over the place.

I don’t think anyone should think that DCU finds and develops all the talented kids in the DMV area.

It’s one club for a huge metro area. Other comparable cities in Europe have more than one youth academy and can sustain those academies with talented players.

There are other pathways outside of the DCU path.

Name me a professional academy in the world that can accommodate ALL the talented kids in their region?
Even the cities with two professional academies can't accommodate ALL the talented kids in their area.
So you're stating the obvious.

Academies all over take a calculated risk approach to select what they consider the most talented kids with the best future potential and the best fit for their culture.
The number of kids obviously has limits.

Most of us unfortunately can't be objective when it comes to Junior and spin all kinds of narratives and conspiracy theories in our heads to deal with not getting selected.

Wow, is this the DCU U14 b team? Very little ball control going on in this game. DCU seems to be trying to play from the back and SYC is just booting it. Good defending from SYC though.

Go to the 29:45 mark and watch for 45 seconds. This is why US Soccer is hopeless.

That’s what I was thinking of when I wrote that there seemed to be little ball control going on in the game. I mean not a single player who got a head on the ball tried to take it down to their feet and back to the ground.

Yup, 45 seconds tells a full and complete story.
Case closed 🤣

If going watch or fast forward through the entire thing, it was the same the rest of the game. No ball control on either side. That 45 seconds encapsulates the entire game well.

I’m sure those players are solid players, clearly, it was an off day for most of them.

Yeah, and it is not an indictment of the players, it’s an indictment of a club (DC United namely) that doesn’t teach players an understanding of how to play.

Please explain further and educate

Most importantly, list the clubs in the DMV that have coaching staffs teaching high levels of tactical understanding & execution in addition to exceptional decision making?
We need those examples to gain context.

I don’t see anyone spinning all kinds of narratives or conspiracy theories. I think you’re just extremely defensive whenever anyone criticizes DCU academy even though those criticisms are very legitimate. And that clip above of the U14s (or whoever they have playing up) is pretty cringe.

Compared to other U.S. academies in similar metro areas and what they’ve done to recruit and cultivate relationships with local clubs to support recruitment efforts, DCU’s efforts have been dismal. That is a fact. Are you going to defend that as well?

If your DCU kid was recruited by DCU, they will do well in spite of being at DCU so not sure why you need to be so worked up about it.

You again beating the same drum about DCU not being a good neighbor. Why are you always so worked up about that?

Didn't DCU First Team just host several local youth coaches at a training session? Isn't that neighborly?

Controlling the ball - stopping it in the air and directing it to your feet - is not high level tactic. It’s basic technical skill which apparently both teams couldn’t do consistently. That is not a good thing for either team if that is not something that can be consistently seen in the video.

PhilaU here, we saw Delco match was surprised DCU lost by that much, head office picked wrong crop of players to develop, specially defensive line, too slow to catch up with delco ball control and speed.

So depending on the day, the problem with DCU is they rely too much on big, physical, fast kids.
Today they are not fast enough to catch-up with kick & run

(never heard of a team not fast enough to catch up with "ball control" btw )

If combined DCU and SYC MLS Next doesn't have any kids that can control a ball, we may as well close the Soccer forum.

None of the other clubs in the area is a professional soccer club. Are you that obtuse?

This. I’m the PP that posted about lack of ball control. I don’t expect MLS Academy teams to be winning all the time but I do expect that their individual players have better technical skills that can easily be seen in match play (regardless of a win or lose). I definitely did not see that in the video posted above.

I mean SYC is not known for the technical skill of their players so this is a game where DCUs kids prob didn’t need to even do much to showcase their skills.
