two years, almost 3. 2019-2020 March 13th school closed 2020-2021 Online school 4 days a week 2021-2022 Kids are back in school, but have to wear masks. |
Nowhere closes schools for 2 years. Everywhere in the country reopened at some point no later than fall 2021. Most schools began staggering returns in fall 2020 into winter/spring 2021. Lying about the duration of closures is pointless and infantile. |
What a goalpost shift! So now you’re counting schools as being closed even when kids were all in 5 days a week. What a moron. |
Teachers don't normally call. I have two teen sons and they've had their share of struggles at school but they teachers never called. If you have received 3 calls already that means the teacher is at his/her wits ends with your teen's behavior. I would start by taking his phone privileges immediately for school and out of school. You can go to Walmart and buy a cheap phone for emergency calls only. Since he's 16, maybe he start looking for a job to stay busy after school. |
I posted above. My child does not have a phone. I have never had a teacher call me with suggested interventions that only I can implement from home that will improve my child’s school performance during the day. I also don’t see anything suggested in this thread other than taking away his phone. If teachers really were calling me to tell me that it would be helpful if I did xyz thing at home, and they told my child that it was expected that he did xyz thing at home, that would be great. If they called and were like, I just need to inform you that your child is failing this class, that would also be fine. That’s never what happens though. It’s always the reverse. They call me and ask me what I think they should do during the school day. I don’t know. This is literally the only child I have ever had to help get through the 10th grade. I have no experience and no education in this. |
Yep, we only care if the behavior doesn't change and we have to write them up, (Its not going to change anything All they will do is giving them detention, and they really don't care cause they can work on "laptops doing school work.)" but least we have record of that behavior or student is not coming to class, and is failing or is sleeping EVERY SINGLE CLASS PERIOD. I understand every once in a while, a student might need a little nap, but that will not happen in my classroom everyday. Maybe the day after Spring Break, or Monday or they are just having a bad day. Even before that happens, we would warn them, if you kept this up we would call home. |
| My neighbor son is also 16, and he transferred to a program called "Penn Forster" He does he schooling one his own, and is able to work in the construction filed doing the day. |
Please cite? Everything I've read says the problems are universal. |
I remember Governor DeSantis, talk about it when he was running for President, it one of the reason he was so popular when he was running. |
oh man, PP, you need to google this. Apple has very good parental controls. block the kid from using their phone during school AT ALL |
If your kid doesn’t have a phone and teachers aren’t calling about it then I am not talking about you. |
They are calling with exactly the same issues as the Op (not paying attention in class, failing grades, etc), just minus the phone. What are these interventions they are expecting parents to make? Why don’t they just explicitly state them? |
This is so real. IP, when you take the phone, make sure you restrict his access to cash. Otherwise, he’ll just buy a burner phone. No jobs until grades are up, for example. |

World needs ditch diggers too.
If kids don't want to learn, let them sit on their phones in the back of the room. Kids who are smart and motivated can pay attention and get the benefit of instruction |

Get him an evaluation for ADHD, then meds if necessary. |
