You misunderstood the comment. The PP was ridiculing another poster.

Even without the price difference, Michigan Engineering is head and shoulders above. OP, did your kid do the specific engineering tour at Michigan? It was very impressive.

We did the engineering tour of Michigan. It was like touring a dusty factory. More like car repairing shops than research lab. The campus is huge and we feel like a drop of water in the ocean. Lucky if someone noticed you.

You’re completely full of it regarding the Engineering campus. You’ve never been to Michigan.

Shorter walking distances, better housing options, better basketball team, easier to get to know professors, more scenic views, better Journalism dept. I’m not saying these are worth the extra money, but let’s stop pretending there are NO advantages to going to Northwestern.

Good points. On the beach too

I can play this game as well too. Housing options are worse in Evanston. Better hockey and football in Ann Arbor. Just as easy to get to know professors at Michigan. Ann Arbor is also more pleasant than Evanston. Better Engineering college at Michigan. Let’s stop pretending there are no advantages going to Michigan.

Are you 6 years old? Just because people say there are SOME advantages to NU, it doesn’t mean they are saying NU has ALL the advantages.

So why bring in the journalism school when the OP is interested in Engineering?

Northwestern, if you can swing the finances.

Northwestern is the better school, and their undergrad engineering curriculum is great - whole brain engineering, as they’ve marketed it.

Well, you have to say something when you’re not top ten, or 5 in Michigan’s case. Northwestern isn’t better than Amichigan in Engineering. It’s just not.

Why waste your money when you have a top prestigious Engineering school in your own home state?

I mean, aren't you comparing two schools at the top, regardless? It's like saying, IDK, Princeton is just soooo much better than Yale because of.... ????

Majoring in engineering

Your in state so you know what you're getting with U of M. I'd go with Michigan and then to MIT/Caltech for grad school with all the money you saved.

I’ve been teaching logic for a long time. I almost weep when I come across someone thinks “It’s just not” is even slightly persuasive.

Should also consider the quarter system versus the semester system, if that makes a difference to your kid.
