My sister in law's parents were that age at her birth. She had a very happy childhood and her parents were very laid back but I think they had the benefit of a much older kid to help raise her young sibling. They both worked and didn't have time to worry about every little thing and be anxious about her (also had the benefit of hindsight with the older kid)

In DCUM upper middle class circles you'll find more of the later.


I just turned 50 and I have a 7 yo. His dad is 45. I am maybe 3-4 years older than all of his friends' parents. A lot of people do not have kids until late 30s here, so having one at 42 wasn't really that big of a deal.
