That’s not the case here. The “designers” take people to Ferguson and then upcharge. The same product is available on build.com which is Ferguson for even less, and even less on Amazon. |
Yeah...that's not how it works. Consumers occupy all kinds of spaces, and if you are hiring someone to design a space that people occupy, that person should be trained and licensed. Home owners and renters do not have to hire and pay those people, so easy solution there: don't. |

DC realistically has work for fewer than a dozen proper designers
Yet there is an army of botoxed housewives who upcharge but can’t tell you what a Pythagorean theorem is without which they literally can’t do their designing How many pay for and use AutoCAD? Give me a break. |
AutoCAD is outdated software, but yes, I agree. |
|
Of course it is, but it’s de minimus. These “designers” use a free version of Chief Architect. Are you kidding me?!

Clients don’t like paying an upcharge for something they can walk in an buy.
The old school was a design fee plus mark up on to the trade price. With the access to information, technology and the ability to work with the manufacturers, most high end designers charge a design fee and/or a combination of a % of goods or overall budget but pass on the to the trade discount vs. nickel and diming their customers. That’s very low class. It comes out similar but the incentives, the trust, the feeling is very different. And the customer is a little better off. |

There are a few to the trade only places, but I have found that they aren’t that great. It’s much more exciting to custom make, buy mutant lights in Italy, bookcases at Sotheby’s etc - they have a consignment shop even.
I would sooner be flogged myself than put an exclusive 😂 Kelly Wearstler some of these to the trade flog in my house. Let alone at an upcharge |
| Murano but mutant is intriguing 😂 |
| Also, the above is for the actual designers. Not randos with an associates degree in bathroom design |
| Not even sure what to do with those |

I looked up the local programs for
Kitchen and Bath Designer which is accredited by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. What credibility! Now that I know this, please upcharge me 40-50% to retail and then another 15% and a storage and delivery and ordering fee on top the hourly fee. You obviously deserve it 😂 |
