I did. He texted me before school started to say it seemed like most people were at school. Has not texted since because they are not supposed to. He has been in school all week as have most of the students.

Interesting -the group of kids in our community say the opposite- at least 10 or more kids absent out of all their classes.

His parents must be mortified.

They’re not. The parents of kids who do stuff like this are the parents of kids who do stuff like this for a reason. More likely they are angry that anyone made a big deal about it and have convinced themselves their son was just joking and has been victimized by the district for no reason. It is never, ever a surprise how the parents behave when we have to engage with them about their children who behave this way.

From my kid, about 70% attendance in AAP and 50% in electives.

After planning on not sending my DS Thursday I did after the last message saying the (assumed) student had been identified. I was surprised to hear from my DS as well as a few parents that the rumor mill was it was a girl which went against both my assumptions and the above. My DS also heard from friend of it was a (very sick) joke so we have had a lot of discussions on the power of words.

So what is the punishment going to be for this kid? The FCPD better charge them harshly. I hope for a plea deal of at least 100 community service hours and a hefty fine.

HA HA HA. I'm sure the kid will be back in school by the end of the week.

Oh thank goodness. I feel so much better about this situation now. Hopefully NBC4 and the other news outlets will cover it, too.

Why is having it on local news helpful?

It won't. But there have been posters on this board complaining for days that it was terrible the media was ignoring the threat. IMHO, more coverage is just going to encourage more teenagers to post more stupid threats at schools around the region.

I hope FCPS publicizes the disciplinary action they take (fine/community service hours as a PP mentioned above). They can do this while keeping the perpetrator anonymous. That is the best way to discourage would-be copycats.

We are truly failing our kids when they can't send out a well worded threat.

Yeah, I’m joining you in hell, but that was my first thought too. Such terrible writing!

Yes, the kid should be back in school. The kid should also have to do community service hours.

The kid should be back in school eventually, but they shouldn't be back at LJMS. This should go to the Hearings Office.

The parents should have to join, or at least deal with some level of pain.

True. I think the family should have to pay a $2000 fine.
