Wouldn't that take away some of the best and the brightest who end up at the other VA publics?

You are complaining about what might very well be the second best state university system in the country.

But the great thing about so many UVA rejections is that the other Virginia schools grt those bright kids making them better options.

Lots of people do not think so. Maybe Wharton is, but it depends on your budget.

Agree. Smaller Ivies will feel different (more focused and attentive) from Michigan. And whether you like that or not depends on you. Columbia and UPenn are large size and will feel a bit chaotic (similar to Michigan) esp to kids graduating from DMV privates.

UVA was built in 1819. It is completely landlocked by the town that grew up around it. So it cannot expand further unlike the huge California publics. Nevertheless, there is an entity called the UVA Foundation whose mission it is to buy up real estate when available.

In addition, there are other decent public universities in the Commonwealth. W&M, VT, VCU. Even GMU is not too bad.

And no deferrals this year. Either admit, denied, or the dreaded WL.

Friday night going to be brutal.

Believe it or not some have William and Mary or Tech had their first choice.

My kid got into all of them. He chose WM.

WM is one of the 6 public Ivies. 1693 —way before UVA

For our high stats kid it was not. VA has excellent value in-state options.

Did your DC pick UVA over Ivy or simply choose not to apply

They chose William & Mary.

Like the size and 12:1 ratio classes taught by Professors, no TAs. Profs teach every class. Not like at ivies or uva.

Two of my kids have gotten into UVA over the years. We are a high achieving family with good grades and SAT scores. And we are pretty wealthy. We have a lot going for us.

Yeah. So have mine. So are we.

AND my kids chose not to attend UVA. Annoying as Fkkk student body. Hardcore striver syndrome. It’s like a bunch of travel sport parent and tiger Moms on crack.

One chose an Ivy and the other one W&M.
