Perhaps but we don't know that yet. And the legislation hasn't moved either

EA at VT in December.

3.76 UW GPA from APS
10 APs
Massive extracurriculars - tech theater, two varsity sports, and state officer in another organization.
Excellent essay.

I see folks write "excellent essay" or "excellent ECs" frequently here.

How do you know that truly? Do you compare your kid's essay to others?

I thought mine had an excellent essay too.

I think parents know the difference. Some essays are truly mediocre

I don't know. I thought my kid's common app essay was pretty mid. We tried to steer him a bit, but at the end, he was happy with it. He got into UVA, but has excellent leadership (Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow Vigil), 1500 SAT and 4.0 UW.

UVA cares about rigor rigor rigor. My son worked so so hard in HS and we are thrilled he got in! But it was a very intense high school experience, with so much stress and so many hours of homework and studying. My younger kids may not take the same route. My son also has good friends with somewhat similar stats who were waitlisted. It’s tough.

Double legacy. Nice!

And likely more important than anything else on that list - many waitlisted/rejected seem to have those other stats..

Most important is VA residency.

I thought mine had an excellent essay too.

My student had my close friend who is a high school english teacher review her common app essay and give her some critiques. Said friend does this for extra money in the summers. She repeatedly told me how amazing her essay was -- one of the best she'd ever read. My student's current English teacher also reviewed it during the fall (it was a class assignment) and I read his comments, which were equally effusive.

This was smart-my DD was waitlisted and we should have done this or applied ED. Still maintaining all As senior year. GPA freshman and sophomore year was 4.13, but 4.5 junior year and 4.75 senior year! I’ve heard they look at upwards trend a lot!
