None of the incumbents have filed yet.

Candidate filing ends Tuesday, February 09, 2024, at 9:00 p.m.

Are there any incumbents worth voting for?
Smondrowski is the one voice of reason and sanity on the BOE.

While she's reasonable, she's not forceful enough to matter.

Correct. And she doesn’t have enough questions or things for followup. I like that Yang, Rivera-Oven and Harris always have questions, clarifications, or points for the teams to take back and followup about. I wish Shebra Evans would come off.

Agree with all this.
Then let's get her some help by electing normal, sane (not far-left) candidates.

Please, normal. Pretty please.

It's the one married to Clint Highfill

Does that mean she's the former DCPS person?

Melissa M Kim

Here's the DCUM posts at the time she left DCPS: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1084640.page

Hasn't Smondroeski been on the board for 12+ years? No one running against her as of now. What about Wolff hasn't she also been around for a long time?!

Rebecca Smondrowski 2012-Present
Shebra L. Evans 2016-Present
Karla Silvestre 2018-Present
Brenda Wolff 2018-Present
Lynne Harris 2020-Present
Grace Rivera-Oven 2022-Present
Julie Yang 2022-Present

That is a long time. We need limits.

We have limits. There's a three-step process:

1. Find a good candidate.
2. Campaign.
3. Win the election by getting the most votes.

I was really bummed that Coll wasn’t elected last year, she would have been great.

Hopefully there will be a good challenger to Evans.
What was Coll's platform? I don't remember.

I know Melissa Kim. She turned around Deal as principal. She has my vote. We need someone to prioritize academics on the BOE.

If she was such a good principal, maybe she should fill one of the many principal vacancies rather than running for BOE.

First candidate to file for District 4: Laura Stewart

It'll be interesting to see if Shebra Evans files again too, or if she's going to leave the board.

When we were in DC, everyone wanted her to be their principal because she transformed Deal into a highly desirable and academically rigorous school. We could use her in an oversight role in MCPS. She most certainly won’t get the Apple Ballot endorsement.

So much for diversity of thought. Look where the lock-step progressive agenda has led MOCO and MCPS.

She's been an Einstein cluster coordinator and has regularly submitted public comments at BOE meetings, for example:
