BOE election candidates 2024

A thread to track the candidates for the upcoming BOE elections.

There are three board seats on the ballot this year: District 2 (roughly Rockville/Gaithersburg/North Potomac), District 4 (roughly Takoma Park/Silver Spring/Wheaton), and an At-Large seat. The primary election is May 14th. So far only two candidates are running, both for the At-Large seat:

Correct. And she doesn’t have enough questions or things for followup. I like that Yang, Rivera-Oven and Harris always have questions, clarifications, or points for the teams to take back and followup about. I wish Shebra Evans would come off.

She's tried. But she's ONE person so there's not much she can do. She needs support. Are the voting citizens of MoCo willing to give it to her in the form of non-leftist fellow BOE members? History says no. This is why MCPS will continue to decline.

She's tried. But she's ONE person so there's not much she can do. She needs support. Are the voting citizens of MoCo willing to give it to her in the form of non-leftist fellow BOE members? History says no. This is why MCPS will continue to decline.

She's willing to ask questions, but then will let lies from MCPS admin go completely unchallenged. She can absolutely do more even without allies on the board.

Their questions are usually awful. And they completely let MCPS by accepting non-answers and and allowing MCPS to either fail to follow up at all, or at least to fail to follow up on their record. Those three absolutely need to go, except, perhaps, for Harris.

Yang and Rivera-Oven are not up for reelection this year. Only Smondrowski, Evans, and Harris are, should they choose to run again.

Ugh. Why do we end up with losers on the school board? We need to cut back on some of their activities so people with kids and (real) jobs can be on the board.
