Oh, I think the idea of sending them is insane. I'm just completely confused by the suggestion that she could have taken the kids on a 40 minute lunch break. Maybe 40 minutes on the hill, but not 40 minutes start to finish. I realize it's too late, but my solution would have been to bribe the 8 year old to keep younger siblings out of my hair with a promise to take off early and go sledding at like 3. |
Agree. Same with 7 yr old. A 7 yr old and 4 yr old are too young to walk a half mile in the snow- both ways, pulling sleds. I can picture getting there, someone loses a mitten, gets snow down neck, etc. crying, wanting to go home, doesn’t want to pull sled back. Sounds like a disaster. The younger ones aren’t going to want to stay long and can be unpredictable. A 9 yr old can’t manage them. Plus a lot of arm and leg breaks happen sledding. And less common, but still a concern, head injuries |
| I don't let my kid sled alone, and she's 10. At least make them wear helmets. |
This. |
| 9 and 7 would be fine. But adding the four-year-old? Not so much. That would be fine for your backyard, but not a half-mile away. |
| Why does your husband get a free pass from snow day duties?? Even if he makes more money, you work too. |
You're kidding, right? In all of my years as a kid, adult and now a parent, I've never seen someone sled in a helmet. The idea of needing to chaperone a 10-year-old sledding is rather crazy too, but there are a lot of helicopter parents in the DMV. I really can't tell if that was a serious post... |
|
Not the 4 year old. Sledding is dangerous. And tiring. Its not fair to put that responsibility on your others. I would be fine with the 9 year old. So so on the 7 year old.
They can play outside in your yard until you have a free hour to take them to the hill. |
You're an idiot. https://www.nationwidechildrens.org/newsroom/news-releases/2020/12/cirp-sledding-injuries |
Your poor kids. |
I’m pretty obsessed with safety and I don’t even make my kids wear helmets when sledding. We also don’t wear helmets tubing. |
|
The 9 year can certainly go by herself.
The 9 year old can probably go with the 7 year old. (Depends on the kids, but most would be okay at these ages.) The 9 year old taking a four year old sounds very very irresponsible and dangerous. If something happens, you’re going to be (rightfully) reported to CPS and spending tons of time in court explaining to a judge that you’re actually not a deadbeat or an idiot. Good luck finding time to work. |
Why did you have kids if you hate them so much? /s |
Nobody was wearing helmets on the hills today. This must be a tiger mom thing |
| Yeah Im definitely against sending your 4 year old out to sled sans parent, but am also against helmets. That's weird. Plus how would that even work with a hat and coat and all the layers? We dont wear helmets skiing, so certainly arent going to while sliding down a neighborhood hill. |
