What’s stopping the people living in the sanctuary city of Chicago from housing these people? Why don’t the good democrats take them in to stop them from freezing to death?

What is Chicago supposed to do, pick up a stick along a roadside and wave it around Harry Potter style while yelling "Habitatum ex nihilo" expecting housing to magically appear out of nowhere?

That’s what Texas is expected to do.

It’s amazing that you don’t realize that.

No state or city can deal with the numbers of people flooding the border. Texas is showing people what has been happening there for years.

Wait until the hospitals, ERs, and schools of Chicago feel the full impact. It’s devastating. I lived in South Texas for 4 years and relocated for work recently. My family still lives there. It’s becoming worse by the day.

It is amazing that you don't realize that if it is wrong and a hardship to have no control over people "flooding" the state, it is EQUALLY IF NOT MORE wrong to intentionally do that to another state. It is as though people never learned that two wrongs don't make a right...

Translation: It’s ok for this to happen to Texas. When other states are forced to deal with a tiny percentage of what Texas deals with, it is instantly WRONG. Shame on Texas for showing other states how overwhelming this situation is. How dare they!

This is all so very enlightening. The twisted minds of LWNJs, on full display.

PP here and it is not OK for it to happen to Texas. We need to do much much more to secure the border.
It is ALSO not OK for Texas to ship these people to another city without any notice or coordination or attempt to locate a place that is prepared.

Texas has no notice of the people they receive. They are forced by the fed gov to take whomever shows up at the border.

Why is that ok to expect Texas to handle, but not other states and cities and especially sanctuary cities? They should be asking Texas to send them every migrant that needs assistance and a new home. They have been very vocal about protecting and helping immigrants.

You are not getting that it is not OK for Texas and it is also not OK for them to dump people without notice.

There is a way to be humane and to coordinate. Spend the money on they are spending for these airplanes on services, prevention or even lobbying on immigration. Create a mechanism to determine the places that either offer to take them or are better prepared to take them. At a bare minimum, give some notice so people can prepare.

Dumping people in Chicago is not impacting a handful of congresspeople in DC. It is impacting the American citizens who work to meet the needs or homeless, who ARE homeless, and who live in those communities.

DP. Once again, the point of making this uncomfortable for blue cities (as it has been 100x more for border states) is to push for actual legislation to stop the flood of illegal immigrants. "Coordinating" is simply making what is a crisis seem like business as usual. No. This needs to be seen as the clusterfk it is, so that FINALLY something will be done.

I watched, just after Biden took office, the first convoy of 100k people approach the border. Even the news realized something was up. The whole world was watching. Biden said let them in. The world responded. What did you expect?

Yep. That's right. Democrats - this is entirely your problem and entirely your fault.

So now I hear Democrats whining about it. Wow.

Yep. And remember every convoy/caravan since? DCUM's finest insisted it was just fiction, somehow created by the right-wing to sow discord, just "Fox talking points." That's what we heard from the gaslighters who wanted Americans to believe none of this was actually happening. And now that blue cities are seeing it up close and personal, all of a sudden it's "sociopathic" and "cruel"! Honestly, this is my single-issue election year. Disgust doesn't even cover it anymore.

You really do think it's ok for the border states to have to CONTINUE shouldering this enormous burden on their own, don't you? Of course you do.
DP

I do not think they should have to continue shouldering this enormous burden.

I think there is a better way to share that burden than dumping people.

In other words, we agree on the problem. We do not agree on the solution.

And completely unChristian. Abbott is such a religious hypocrite. Would love to see the pope ex-communicate him over this.

It would be a shame if the wheelchair bound Governor Abbot was left on the street in the Chicago winter to fend for himself.

Me thinks he hasn’t experienced any hardship in a while.

I’m sorry, what? Did you just say a man in wheelchair hasn’t suffered hardship?

Correct. I think the solution is securing the border to stop the masses of illegal immigrants from entering the U.S. Apparently, the only way to get the attention of Democrats is to literally bring the crisis to them and make it even a fraction as uncomfortable as it is in Texas. Perhaps then, Democrats will see their way clear to actually DOING something about it.

Why is Pritzker pleading with Greg Abbot? Abbot isn’t causing this problem.

He should be pleading with Joe Biden.

Abbot and Texas have to take care of immigrants in extreme heat and humidity during the Texas summer. Whom does Abbot get to plead to for “mercy” during those dangerous times?

Joe Biden, who promptly does nothing.

If it works in Texas, it should work in Chicago.

They are fine with it until it impacts them. Now that they have to actually put their money where their mouth is, it’s a big problem. And they blame Texas for the problem.

Biden is at fault.

Don’t forget the “progressive” caucus though…who spend more time and resources advocating for migrants than they do for actual progressive policies for Americans. Would love for them to put the same amount of energy advocating for health care reforms, UBI, free community college, etc—that they put into blocking legislation that would stem the flow of migrants, who they constantly try to allocate limited resources towards…

The only real solution is a safe third country agreement with Mexico, and also cracking down harshly on employers who hire people without authorization to work.

F*ck the, “oh just spend more money so we can process them faster, and also take care of them in the meantime”

No, because
1. Even when they are processed, as long as they haven’t been convicted a horrible crime they aren’t deported, at most they’re given the option to “self-deport”
2. Besides the fact we’re spending precious resources taking care of migrants—their presence in and of itself causes native support for redistributive policies to go down… want cheaper healthcare? More investment in schools? Greater help for poor people? Less inequality? Even *mentioning* immigration in surveys that ask for support for these kinds of policies leads to less support for them. Tribalistic nature is an evolutionarily imposed trait. And people view outsiders using public goods/overwhelming public goods/resources/taxpayers as being unfair. Look up the “ultimatum” economic game experiments if you want to understand just how detrimental mass migration is to progressive economic policy goals.

It’s hardwired into us to reject gains, if we feel someone else has unfairly gained more. We are altruistic for our own “tribe”, but others? Nope.

Maybe everyday Democrats were unaware of how devastating this really is. It's taken a desperate act on the part of Texas to make everyday people who don't live in Texas understand this is a crisis.

Bottom line: News sources have been downplaying this crisis. They aren't telling us the truth.

The government at both the federal and state levels know exactly how bad this problem is, because they receive intelligence.

Why? Perhaps we should be asking why our news sources and elected officials are gaslighting the American people.

They know it’s devastating, they are happy with it. They view it as a mechanism to turn Texas blue and make Abbot look racist and evil because he doesn’t “care” about people who are here illegally.

Now he’s sending people to blue states and they are crying for mercy. He’s sending a small percentage of people to Sanctuary cities that welcome immigrants, who supposedly have a bigger heart and want to protect vulnerable people. Unlike those terrible republicans. And the Sanctuary cities can’t handle it because no one can handle it. That’s the point.

It’s past time for this political charade to end.

The only way this is going to get fixed is if Abbott sends way more illegals to DC. You gotta get it as close to the decision makers as you can and let them feel the pain and consequences of their actions. They need so many migrants there that Spanish is the only language spoken and they feel like foreigners in their own country. The immigrants also need to blast loud Mexican music like they do down in Texas.

Send the flood to DC. Let the politicians who are allowing this to continue see the problem and deal with the problem.
