Upper Class Beauty

I grew up wealthy around very wealthy people - you probably wouldn’t know that if you knew me- and honestly none of this is what I’d say- so much obsession with weight here! You all are taking about like a Hollywood version of wealthy. In truly elite circles people come in all shapes and sizes and styles- though often with very expensive jewelry (much of which is handed down). To me the keys are effortlessness and confidence and wearing whatever clothes suit you best with that confidence - the hangers on and people who are trying too hard to look the part stand out.

For the love of God just be yourself! You don’t have to change how you look or dress because you have a bit more money. Have fun with the extra $$ and don’t make it stressful or overthink it! That’s a bad vibe and people will know.

OP how you do envision "elite"?

OP here. I suppose my inspiration are some of the following women:

Obiously, fitness and thinness is striking. Along with great hair.

What's most noteworthy about those women is who they married.

Exactly. Neither of them had particularly great style until they were getting significant "help." So take that to heart dear.

here’s my starting points - some of these I just cannot achieve given my genetic lottery (like point no. 1):

nice, thick, non-frizzy hair. not too long. either no grey, or a beautful shiny silver grey. no partly grey, roots showing, etc.

good brows and lashes

clean well shapes nails, with either a nice manicure or short and nicely buffed

clear plump skin

simply and well dressed. this can mean many things and you don’t have to be stick thin, but you have to look put together.

shoes and bag without scuffs, etc

straight teeth and big nice smile

not too much makeup, but make sure brows are defined and lipstick or gloss

Neither actually. Straight, silky hair and healthy skin over a slim, fit, figure with fitted conservative clothes. No long nails, overly bleached hair or too much makeup. The secret to WASP make up is to 'make it look like you're not wearing any at all'. One exception - if you're black - natural hair is appropriate as long as it's clean and healthy; never hair extensions. For naturally curly white girls - you're screwed - learn how to straighten it by puberty.

I sadly can’t think of one curly haired white woman whose hair looks good unless it has been blown out or curlers used or something. I’m in this boat so I am criticizing myself …

Anonymous wrote:My former MIL is wealthy beyond my comprehension. She buys her cosmetics and hair products at Safeway or CVS. Gets a cheap perm from the old guy that does all the little old ladies' hair in her neighborhood. For her, the 'elite' look is that weird subtle money thing. Never a brand or logo in site. But you just know it is something you could never in a million years afford. Or that she bought it at Walmart. Total crap shoot with that woman.

It's understandable. If money is not an object and flaunting isn't either... you only buy things you like. And sometimes what you like happens to be readily available and very cheap; or it could be something rare and ridiculously expensive.

Also, look at the pictures. They are both standing in an unusual way to emphasize their lean posture. Go read up on camera tricks.

I like a lot of Kate Middleton's clothes but that blue outfit is very ugly.

The reason people don't get it is that the media only shows them pictures of conventionally attractive wealthy women. The random wealthy family who flies under the radar can be of all shapes and sizes. The attention-seeking people who show up to glitzy socialite parties with photographers onsite are only a very small subset of the wealthy.

So you’re going for skinny and married to a very famous man.

Borderline boring but high quality clothes.

Hair colored often. Subtle manicure. Kate wears pretty heavy makeup but CBK didn’t.

Hard to say what else your inspirations have in common.

Kate and Carolyn were umc trying to marry ultra wealthy. Carolyn was much heavier pre John and groomed herself a certain way. Born wealthy ladies just often wear casual land’s end looking clothes if they are from the NE, and they don’t mind looking sturdier.
