I am on a self-improvement phase of my life. I'd like to upgrade my looks and style to reflect a more elite aesthetic.
Ladies of DCUM, your tips and wisdom would be appreciated! |
| My former MIL is wealthy beyond my comprehension. She buys her cosmetics and hair products at Safeway or CVS. Gets a cheap perm from the old guy that does all the little old ladies' hair in her neighborhood. For her, the 'elite' look is that weird subtle money thing. Never a brand or logo in site. But you just know it is something you could never in a million years afford. Or that she bought it at Walmart. Total crap shoot with that woman. |
| There are a lot of versions of “elite.” |
OP how you do envision "elite"? |
|
NP. I had this question today. If my DH (or me together with him) increased our salary, and our net worth to something crazy like 12-15m… i would need some different beauty standards.
Money helps. But I’m thinking on a future scale, anything I should be doing now. My first thoughts are *fitness. I don’t have to wait to work on that *skin skin skin The other stuff is maintenance that is easy to amplify. Just get a great hair stylist or makeup artist. Already I have made huge improvements on a cute capsule style way of dressing. Even though it would be amplified later, I have connective outfits down. I have a vision for what looks best on me, color and shape. |

Sounds like my MIL! Cartier watch + personal shopper at Sak’s + hair style by Great Cuts. |

I have a couple acquaintances from fabulously wealthy families and they simply don’t give a damn how they look. They don’t have to care! Male attention has literally no upside for them at all! They look healthy and well groomed but seemingly think anything beyond that is simply not worth their time and effort.
I’m sure it would be different if they had married into the money. |

Oh, gosh. More of this "elite" stuff.
OP, this is cultural. You want an "elite" look in the context of what culture? I'm early 50s, and with regard to the really wealthy people I know, I have some friends from Dubai around my age who are wearing very different makeup than than my equally wealthy friends who are WASPs. They all look very well put together and rich -- which is what I assume you mean by "elite"? I assume you mean more WASPy stuff? Look at GOOP beauty. Look at clean girl aesthetic videos on YouTube. If you are starting from square one, consider a makeup lesson with a local mua. |
OP here. I suppose my inspiration are some of the following women:
Obiously, fitness and thinness is striking. Along with great hair. |
|
Unfussy hair, professional color
Minimal makeup Thin to healthy weight Clothes that fit, quality fabrics Clean, unworn looking shoes The rest can be individualized but I'd also say nothing too much (rings on every finger) or too extreme (long, fake looking hair extensions) Will vary by region/country |

| Just be really thin and have a blow out. |
Well, then I think you are coveting genetics and a professional stylist. |
| Are you wealthy? The upkeep is time and $$ |
