I have to note here that it's not the first time FCPD has made the news for bad behavior. A few years ago it was coercing minor teens in trouble with the law into sexual acts.

I'm not sure if FCPS or FCPD acted properly or improperly here according to the rules but it's pretty hard to condemn them for keeping a suspected murderer out of the school.

You do you.

So you didn't read. FCPD, that corrupt organization, is accusing FCPS of tipping off a student by telling him he could not come to school because he was accused of murder with a firearm. FCPS did their job, which is to protect students from alleged murderers. It's not FCPS's fault that police did not search the home of the student in time to find more evidence. Standard procedure is to secure evidence ASAP, and FCPD messed up badly, and even worse, it's now trying to point fingers elsewhere.

Disgusting.

NP here. Both entities have been known to drop the ball, on the regular, sadly. There needs to be some (any) oversight.

Is there any suggestion that he was tipped off because of his family's connection to LE?

I think there is very light hinting, but not outright suggestion.

Not enough facts to know for sure, but there's a good starting point for a legit self defense case. Suspect will be very lucky to get released pending trial. What a nightmare.

A good example of "nothing good happens after midnight."

In the mom's IG she refers to him and the other suspect as "my boys." I can't even imagine. He has a decent, intact family, dad is military, grandfather was Fairfax LE. I imagine they will get him a good lawyer. Wonder how he went so off the rails so young?

Probably his peer group at that high school.

What is the school like? He did not shoot someone in Alexandria, but in DC.

Why the backpack? What was he really doing there? Besides not backing down from a fight.

This is important information, right here.

That's a good question. A suburban kid walking around DC in the middle of the night is unusual enough, carrying a large backpack (with guns) is definitely strange.

West Po is in Fairfax, this isn’t Alexandria. From what I understand it’s a decent school with a significant number of UMC kids. They’re rivals to ACHS.

The kid who got arrested is from what was the old Groveton area, the kids from Fort Hunt got jammed into the same high school with them.

It's in Alexandria in Fairfax County, but not Alexandria city i.e. attended by addresses in Alexandria, VA outside the beltway.

Unless the LE parent told or encouraged them to carry for protection in DC.

I know the difference, because I live in Alexandria. I also know where West Po is. SMH.

They encouraged a 16 year old, to cross state lines, with a concealed weapon, at 3am?

Does this kid have the same parents as the 6 yr old in Newport News who shot his 1st grade teacher with his mother’s gun that she “claimed” was locked on a high shelf in her closet?

Guns around kids (in this case 15+ guns around kids). What could go wrong?

Pathetic how he went fishing for fun around the same time he did this. Just why?

I live in the area. The Groveton/Fort Hunt high school merger took place a generation ago - mid 1980's. I know many parents of West Potomac students or recent grads who graduated from West Potomac High School. The Fort Hunt/Groveton graduates are all now approaching or past 60 years old. I don't know any current families who say - oh you live in a Groveton neighborhood versus a Fort Hunt neighborhood.

The neighborhood he lives is, Kirkside, is full of educated, professional, wealthy, white families. It borders the Hollin Hall neighborhood, the highly sought after contemporary homes designed by Charles Goodman. The neighborhood has a pool, Hollin Meadows Swim and Tennis Club. The elementary school for Kirkside is Hollin Meadows Elementary, which is one of the Title 1 elementary schools that feeds into WestPo. It draws from a very large apartment complex on Rt. 1 and one of the Rt. 1 trailer parks. When my kids were in elementary school, most of the Kirkside families sent their kids to Hollin Meadows, but I don't know if that's still true today.

The backpack looks pretty full in the image, what was in it? Way more than a handgun, which he probably had in his waistband anyway. Was he buying pot (bulky) and/or pills to deal in VA?

The idea that a parent told him it was ok to be on U St. at 3:30 am and to take a handgun for protection is preposterous. LE was his late grandfather, anyway. Father is military. The kids probably lied to the parents and said they were sleeping at a friend's house, as so many kids do.

The obvious case to try to make is self defense. I assume the caring parents will lawyer up for both boys. There is way more amiss in Ashton's life than not backing down from a fight. And now he has taken a human life at only age 16. It is startling that a MC kid is in that life at such a young age from a stable family background.
