But, If I'm not mistaken, the crime he was convicted of was obtaining sex by deceit, just like this guy. The difference was not so much in what he did, but the fact that the women thought they were bribing him rather than having recreational/relational sex. By my standards, they were much more deserving of the poetic justice than this woman. |
I'm most fascinated by the automatic label of a woman who has sex after 20 minutes as a 'slut'. Very revealing that attitudes to women and their control of their sexuality are pretty, ah, judgy on this site. And what is the man? |
I agree completely. This woman should be free to use her sexuality as she sees fit, just as men are. However, there are consequences to the way she (or any man) chooses to use their sexuality. Having sex with someone after only 20 minutes of knowing them is fine. But you can't claim afterward that you expected a high level of trust and faith in someone you know so shortly. I don't think this woman was a slut. Not one bit. But I do think she was pretty dumb to sleep with someone after knowing them only 20 minutes if the religion and ethnicity of that person is as important as she stresses now. If that was so important to her, she should have taken the time to properly vet the guy. And I would say the same thing if the sexes were reversed. Is she a slut? No. Sleep with whomever, however, whenever. Is she ignorant? Yea, I'd say so. |
Bravo! |
IMO having sex with someone you've known for 15 or 20 minutes is slutty and the man and woman are equally so. However the man got sex and has no complaints. The woman got sex and then complained about him. According to an Israeli news report, the man left her on the roof naked after sex and said he was going to get a drink but, he didn't come back and she was found by neighbors, still naked. Could it be that she felt rejected by the man or embarassed by the neighbors and that led to her complaint? |
FWIW, she originally claimed rape in the usual sense, but her story fell apart. She's not a sympathetic character no matter how you parse it. But the question is still about him, not about her. And about the law. And about whether the law is applied fairly by the judiciary.
I don't feel I have enough information to answer any of these, but it would surprise me if there is a country in the world where laws are always applied fairly. |
She should be attacked as racist. She only pressed charges when she found out he was a muslim. He never lied and said he was Jewish. This was an assumption that she made. And as for the law, even Israeli legal scholars are questioning how the law was applied by this court. So you can't just say "the law is the law". Absent this case, it has only been used for cases involving a failure to deliver on a serious commitment (housing, marriage) over an extended period of time. It is inconceivable that this is the intended application of the law, and yet no one else is in prison for rape for lying about marital status. It has created an uproar within Israel and worldwide for that fact. |
At a time when rape in the true definition of the word is a problem and when every 'real' case does not get investigated as thoroughly as it should. |
The man isn't the one complaining. |
The man is a total scumbag who deserves to lose his wife and kids and pretty much every poster is going to agree with that. There is no double standard here, it's just that no one really cares whether or not she lied to him. The issue is whether someone who meets a guy, takes him out on the roof and screws him before five songs finish on the jukebox has any reasonable expectation that she knows who this guy really is. This is not about empowerment. This is about casual -- practically anonymous -- sex, and any fool knows that comes with a fair amount of risk. And as for the word 'slut', it means sexually promiscuous. I struggle to see how her actions are anything but that. |
In his defense, he did not have enough time (20 minutes) to explain that his nick name being Jewish was just a coincidence. ![]() |
