Are you saying these people were prosecuted as well (the examples above)? |
The article http://www.jta.org/news/article/2010/07/27/2740232/rape-or-racism says "In one case, a man named Eran Ben-Avraham was convicted on three counts of fraud for telling a woman he was a wealthy neurosurgeon in order to maintain a relationship. In another, Zvi Sleiman was convicted of rape by deception for pretending to be a senior Housing Ministry official and making promises of an apartment to keep his girlfriend. That decision was upheld in 2008 by Israel's Supreme Court." It also says this: "In the United States, California and Tennessee have "rape by fraud" legislation, according to CBS News." |
Never mind what we think about him or her.
What do we think about the Israeli justice system? I really thought Israel was a beacon of light with their laws. Now I see it as another middle eastern backward state. |
I don't really take that from this PP. Not at all. He has not been buried to his neck and stoned. Nor has she by the way. There are other similar examples in our own country. Many countries that are 'enlightened' have laws that might need refining or total cleaning off the books---that's what discussions like this often lead to in free societies. Sometimes they don;t and it's frustrating, but don't throw out the baby with the bathwater--keep plugging away at reform. |
Hey, talking about backward legal systems, didn't you see that stuff about California and Tennessee having similar laws? California is supposed to be our laboratory for reform. |
I don't see anything wrong with the law. It is just that she is a racist. |
The case is not about his marital status. I think this Israeli analyst said it best:
These two people hooked up and had sex within fifteen minutes of meeting, on top of a nearby building. This was as casual as sex gets. It is absurd that posters are trying to stand up for this when so many Jewish newspapers will not. |
backward people and a backward judicial system. |
Let him (or her) who lives in a country without backward laws cast the first stone. Think of a country that does not allow representation for its own capital, or "defends" marriage by denying people the right to marry whom they love. |

I do not understand they are backward and that is it. No excuses. I did look up to Israel as the one middle eastern country with a viable democracy and a humane legal system. I thought it was on the level of European nations. I do not think that anymore. |
People who are that religious do not eat any meat that someone else has made or cooked. They only eat the meat that has been bought from a kosher or halaal butchery, and do not go anywhere near other meat sources. If they do they know they know your chicken is not from a kosher butcher to start off with. |
I was wondering how long it would take to go from legitimate judicial comentary, to being anti-israel, to inevitably being anti- Jewish. Yep, you fell into the trap that OP set. Post anything about israel, and soon enough the real feelings come out.
But alas, DCUM posters are always the beacons of light to set us straight. |
Excuse me, but which statement was critical of Judaism or the Jewish people? I saw statements that are critical of Israel and the Israeli judicial system. I think you fell into your own trap. Post anything critical of Israel, and you will be called anti-Jewish. |
Doesn't conservative judaism also prohibit sex outside of marriage? Seems to me this hypocritical woman should face the music for her promiscuity, if she's so pure that consensual sex with an Arab can be termed "rape". |
