New poster: trust me, Fox News is. I married into a family with relatives in FL and they're devoted Fox New watchers. As far as they're considered DC has been a hellscape the 30 years we've lived here. They couldn't believe we let our children Trick or Treat on the actual DC streets, etc. and make comments every time we see them about how awful it must be to live in such a dangerous place.

Ignorance is bliss, right?!

Thinking DC has been a hellscape for the last 30 years is a symptom of watching Fox News 24/7. It's definitely ignorance

It's been a hellscape for 30 years and housing prices are through the roof because everyone wants to live here. Neat trick!

Really, boo? You're going to Target in the NYC hood?

You're easily frightened, aren't you?

I am as liberal as you can get, and this is clearly a problem in other places besides the "hood." The CVS in Spring Valley was hit, FFS.

But I live in the Baltimore suburbs and it's hard not to ignore the obvious decline in public standards and expectations around theft and shoplifting. The drug stores putting everything behind glass containers. The stories of the police not bothering to come out for reports of shoplifting or burglaries or porch thefts. The big increase in antisocial driving behaviors. When you see a lot of small quality of life incidents go unpunished and unpenalized and the police not doing anything about it because they've been told by their political masters not to do anything about it, it's really hard not to feel that social behaviors is fragmentizing and declining and pulling people apart.

I'm also increasingly skeptical of these article from NYT or WaPo or Atlantic or LATimes other usual liberal papers admonishing us everything is actually great and we're only racist/bigoted/sexist/whatever for thinking otherwise. Like Biden's ridiculously tone deaf statements on how Thanksgiving has never been cheaper when food bills have exploded in the last few years. I know it all comes down to heavily selective "facts".

Technically the cost of a Thanksgiving meal HAS gone down. But, yes, it’s probably a bit tone deaf to bring that point up.
