It’s 16th street:

Why are some of you, who championed defunding the police, now denying it??

Make your feelings on the bill known not only to your CM but also Mendelson and the AL members who represent all of us.

These measures all seem destined to land more Black children in prison.

We all know these kids grew up in under-resourced communities, and were never given the opportunities they deserved growing up. Prison is not going to make their lives better.

And letting them off without any sort of punishment or rehabilitation -- which is exactly what's happening now -- is not going to make anyone else's lives better.

+1

What about the other black children in these neighborhoods deserving to grow up in a safe community? I live in a majority black neighborhood and everyone is concerned about crime and safety.

+2 when I see comments on IG and Twitter on various DC crime stories the people most concerned about crime, especially violent crime, are black and they are really fearing for their safety.

Yes, for many of us in this city, this isn’t a philosophical debate. The current crime policies are life and death.

So true.

Now it should be “surge the police.”

This bill is a pathetic joke which will do nothing to actually reduce crime in DC.

These are very stupid, unserious people.

Criminals are already breaking existing laws.

Our crime problem is actually a policing problem (lack thereof via work slowdown), prosecution problem (dropping charges because too lazy to take to trial), and judge problem (releasing too many violent criminals before their trial).

Absolutely. MPD needs way more scrutiny than they are getting. and the proposals in Bowser's latest pathetic bill are NOT it.

They know if that if a criminal overdoses on fentanyl or crashes their car fleeing, they are on the hook for murder. We now have the city people said they wanted in 2020.

Nope. Not true at all. Can you tell me more about these stories you create in your fiction writing class?

You’re clearly low information. If your computer time at the library hasn’t run out, Google Terence Sutton.

These are great points. This crime issue is of Bowser's making. She is the boss of the police who aren't doing their jobs. She is the boss of the crime lab that is decertified.
