I'll take them off your hands. |
Yah, but they are just little dumb rodents so who cares. |
How about snake or alligator skin? |
I'm European and everyone wears them, not only the older women. |
| Women in parts of Europe may wear them, but it is unusual to see women in Northern Virginia and Richmond wearing fur. |
I am not playing Whataboutism with you. There will always be bigger subjects and worse situations. We are discussing fur to be worn when there are hundreds of other options of coats. Fur is only worn in the DMV for fashion, we do not live in Alaska. Chicken is also mistreated, if you'd like to discuss that, start a thread in the Food or Off-topic forum, not Beauty and Fashion. |

I’m surprised that people are still aggressively anti-fur because it seems like it would be pretty easy to raise fur animals in a way that would meet or exceed our standards for food animals and except for the potential for animal cruelty, it seems relatively unobjectionable to me.
Mostly I don’t have any because it’s expensive and it’s not that cold here. But I don’t really have an ethical objection, or at least having one would be inexorably hypocritical of me. |
Sure. But know that you sound really, really dumb when you make fur coats a moral failing while being blissfully ignorant or choosing to ignore the rest of the fashion and clothing industry. |
I can see the moral judgementalism coming through... sneering at alcoholism and addiction to tobacco as major moral failures. Okay... so much for the age of kindness and tolerance. |
I mean… they’re skinned alive most of the time. |
I am not doing that, I am saying to start another thread if you want to have a discussion about other kinds of clothing. They are all evil, but fur is the worst of them. This thread is about fur. And no, I do not sound "really, really dumb". Many people on the thread agree with me and only you have called me "really, really dumb". I think you sound sad and pathetic, maybe start a thread about your state of mind in health/medicine. |
Fur has been around for millennia and it's certainly not the worst of it. I think exploring people for cheap clothing is worse. I can mention that anywhere but especially in the context of this threat as it is very relevant. If you are going to make someone feel like shit for wearing fut, be ready to defend your stance without calling it "whataboutism." You don't get to police the discussion. And yes, you do sound dumb and hypocritical. |

There are a lot of secondhand furs on Facebook marketplace.
It doesn't get cold enough here to make fur worthwhile; I mean, my relatives in the 1930s and 40s in VA wore fur, judging from the pictures but most people in this area haven't bought fur in decades. I'm sure there are a number of transplants in the DC area and Richmond who would be more than happy to sell or give you their furs. |
That doesn’t make sense. |

OP here. I ended up buying on consignment a beautiful (hopefully) 35 year old cream-colored fox with 31" hem so a little longer than peacoat length. I got it online and I'm very excited to wear it this season once it gets to me.
I'm going to take a full season to see how I do with this piece before taking on any additional ones. I hope all the anti-fur loons are cozy and warm in their Chinese polyester this Thanksgiving. |
