Of course it’s ok. Dubai is very safe. But in my opinion, you are making a huge mistake going to Dubai instead of Oman. |
Travel advisor does not recommend anyone with Jewish last name go to Oman/ Jordan/ Egypt/ Lebanon/ Turkey /Saudi right now. But everyone’s risk profile is different. |
Sound advice, sadly. |
I’m not Jewish, but that recommendation is enough for me not to want to visit any of those countries. |
| LOL I guess you are a newbie for travel? For sure, you'll be killed in Dubai. |
Interesting that UAE isn't on that list or do you think it is? |
| Statistically South Africa is the riskiest part of your trip. |
Seriously. Sadly, Americans are unaware that Arab countries are very welcoming (even toward Americans whose government supports the slaughter of their fellow Arabs). |
Are you a Jewish American with a Jewish sounding name who looks Jewish? Because it’s a very different experience traveling in certain parts of the world. |
I’ve been to the Middle East, Qatar specifically. The people were very warm, friendly and welcoming. That said, their human rights record isn’t the best and I have no desire to spend my money in countries that aren’t tolerant of other religions, sexes and don’t allow basic freedoms. Also, while there were some interesting aspects to Qatar and Doha, I couldn’t see spending more than a couple days there. For the time and money it takes to get there, along with the issues I mentioned prior, not much appeal to me as a travel destination. Ditto for UAE. I’ve heard great things about Oman, but will probably never get there. |
Are you Jewish? Who are you to comment on how welcoming an openly anti-Semitic country is to Jews? |
yes would not go to Middle East as an American especially with jewish last name |
UAE recognizes israel and has a large Jewish population- unlike these others. |
True. They do have a diplomatic relationship. But I think Jordan and Egypt have some sort of relationship, right? The others def do not. Stay away if you are Jewish. |
I think it’s okay in UAE. Wouldn’t go anywhere else in ME. |
