We are supposed to be in Dubai for 5 nights in late December before heading to South Africa.
Would you cancel given current situation in Israel/Gaza/Lebanon? Fwiw Jewish last name (mixed faith/race family)…. |
| You sound too hysterical for international travel. |
| Dubai has nothing to do with this so I don’t see the issue |
| Dubai is awful |

Seems okay based on this firsthand experience. |
No, it's not. Gaza, now that is an awful place. OP will be traveling on an American passport. Her faith will not come into play while in the UAE. If anything, the large majority of hotel staff and restaurant staff and service workers will be Asians or South Asians, with desk facing staff in expensive hotels eastern Europeans. I seriously doubt any will recognize a Jewish surname. I lived in the UAE for years with a last name that similar enough to several Jewish last names and not once did anyone ever blink. |

Security-wise, you'll probably be fine. But ethics-wise, I would never give my money to countries with such human rights and women's rights records. |
Agreed. And I bet these people who travel Willy nilly into countries with what could only be described as horrific human and civil rights abuses are the same ones who “refuse” to vacation in Florida or let their kids go to college in the south. The one interesting result of the terrorist massacre in Israel and ensuing war in Gaza is what we are discovering about those on the far left…which creates an interesting comparison with stereotypes on the far right. |

I do understand your fears but think you’ll be fine. Nothing is ever guaranteed to be safe.
As humans were bad at estimating risks. Like how people fear flying far more than driving. That most dangerous part of your trip is South Africa, one of the least safe countries in the world. UAE’s murder rate per 100K people is around .5 making it one of the safest. South African’s is 42 per 100K making it among the highest. |
You sound like an interesting and compassionate person. /s |
Yet you live in the US? |
PP you replied to. Are you saying that today, the United States of America is on par with the United Arab Emirates regarding human rights abuses? Why don't you give us facts to prove your case. |
Tons of human rights violations in the USA. Read up on migrant and farm workers. Look at all the children in cages at the borders separated from their parents, lack of basic health care for people, lack of maternity leave, lack of abortion rights, etc etc. I really don't think the US can say much about any other country. |
+1. |
Where can I look up these stats? |
