Security-wise, you'll probably be fine.

But ethics-wise, I would never give my money to countries with such human rights and women's rights records.

Yet you live in the US?

PP you replied to. Are you saying that today, the United States of America is on par with the United Arab Emirates regarding human rights abuses?

Why don't you give us facts to prove your case.

DP. In Dubai, women walk around alone in the streets at 1am, 2am and absolutely no one bothers them. It is one of the safest countries in the world.

Disagree. My family loved it!

What did you like most? The slave labor?

I live in the US where meat factories employ migrant children as young as 12 years old. At least those in Dubai are making decent salaries.

“ n the past two decades, the city of Dubai has experienced exponential growth, made possible by vigorous foreign investment and its robust tourism industry. However, beneath the glossy visage of the city lies a foundation of pervasive human rights violations; primarily slavery. Slavery presents itself primarily in the construction industry, enabled by the exploitation of immigrant construction workers. Additionally, many of the wealthy elite manipulate immigration processes in order to keep immigrant women as their personal domestic servants, subjecting them to a life of indentured servitude and slavery. The sex trade is also prevalent in Dubai, as many women are trafficked from all over the world to the city to serve as prostitutes for businessmen clientele. Additionally, many women arrive willingly, signing contracts to become domestic workers or work in Dubai businesses, only to have employers confiscate their passports and force them to work as prostitutes. This is partially enabled by the abuse of the United Arab Emirate’s residence visa system.
The forms of slavery detailed here are enabled not only by international criminal organizations and corrupt businesses, but by the corruption and/or ineffectual malaise of the local and state governments in the region, as well as foreign embassies. Widespread reforms should be instated to help those in slavery get out and to punish those responsible.”

Agreed.

And I bet these people who travel Willy nilly into countries with what could only be described as horrific human and civil rights abuses are the same ones who “refuse” to vacation in Florida or let their kids go to college in the south.

Well said

do you think thay they shouldn't be allowed to leave their home countries when they are invited to work in dubai?

Who are these people, what type of work are you talking about and what countries are they coming and going from?

Why don’t you read some serious news reports and watch some documentaries. The laborers have their passports taken from them, they work 21 hours a day in 120 degree weather, their living conditions are horrific and the lucky ones are paid for their work.

Dubai is a trashy playground for trashy adults.

The one interesting result of the terrorist massacre in Israel and ensuing war in Gaza is what we are discovering about those on the far left…which creates an interesting comparison with stereotypes on the far right.

You sound like a straight up narcissist. Like you came specifically on here just to brag about what a superior and moral person you are. Also, your musings belong in the “political” forum and have nothing to do with what OP asked.

Dubai has modern day slavery.

For a third world country national, these wages are what they can support their families with, in their native countries because of lack of work there.

Few people still say this.

So do some of you now just pick and choose when we listen to State Dept Warnings? Sometimes, but not always all depending on...what?
