The Hamas war crimes are indefensible. There is no question about it. But, for people likening it to 9/11 can you imagine if President Bush had lumped in innocent civilians with terrorists in such a derogatory matter?

The UN reported earlier this year that 60% of Palestinians were in need of humanitarian assistance and now they just cut off funding. Maybe Israel come to reason and allow food drops, or allow women and children to leave (which I don't know if I could do since I have teenage boys).

For anyone else who doesn't understand the calculus:

IDF doesn't want to go on the ground in Gaza. They will lose in a house-to-house battle and they will certainly lose some hostages they very much want to recover.

So, their calculus is like this: I can't fight you for my hostages but I will starve you so you hand them over voluntarily.

We'll see who blinks first.

This is only true because IDF, unlike Hamas, tries to avoid killing Palestinian civilians.
(And unlike the USA and European powers who were traditionally content to firebomb and nuclear bomb cities.)

The implicit is now explicit. It has always been heavily implied that Israeli civilians are more important than Palestinian civilians, but it seems that the Israelis are now willing to say it out loud.

I read this quote and it was clear he was talking to IDF troops about fighting Hamas militants. I agree we need a specific word for humans who make the behavioral choices we saw this weekend. We needed one for Isis, we need one now. Do you have a better suggestion than "human animal"?

Maybe I am reading the statement differently. Who is punished by cutting off food, fuel, and electricity to 2 million people?

They are not leaving and will be in Israel for all eternity. So find a way to coexist

People need to learn their history. Arab states have never wanted to take in Palestinians. When Egypt did, they threw them in wretched refugee camps.

And you wonder why their neighbors don't like them?

The Israeli claim is two millennia old and they are so far removed from the land its ridiculous. There should be a statute of limitations here but the Brits sold the land fair and square to get them out of Europe. Egypt is a strategic partner. Israel-Jordan relations are pretty good.

Israel was even starting to warm up slightly to Saudi Arabia.

500,000 Jews lived in what is now Israel in 1945, before Israel was established.

Israelis are Sephardic and Ashkenazi — not ethnically European.
