Why would someone need asylum for homeschooling? Sounds like they are being deported for misusing the visa waiver program we have with European countries.

FWIW, there is some information that is left out of that article. Do you know what the basis of asylum is in this country? It is persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion. Just being a citizen of a failed or failing state and being persecuted by a lousy government is not grounds for asylum. Those who were beaten after being returned to Cameroon for applying for asylum may not be a part of a particular social group, that of people being persecuted for applying for asylum. Maybe.
