Again it depends more on whether FCYBL will "enforce" these zip codes(?) They haven't last few years so I imagine most organizations are not taking them particularly seriously. There are hardly even any protests unless involves star player known to multiple orgs.

Would love for current coach to confirm in few weeks whether FCYBL requiring submission of zip codes (SIS/utility bills etc) Not just having coach collect and keep yourself in case of protest (which hardly happens). But actually submitting to league itself for review (which has been usual process historically). That will keep league reputation strong (and avoid AAU comparisons). Thanks.

At Arlington travel tryouts this week, we saw a few kids trying out who live in Fairfax county plus one of DC's 22-23 teammates who moved to Falls Church this summer. Other parents hanging around outside with us also saw families there from other parts of Fairfax county. We were all annoyed yet no one wanted to rat out the families or tell the coaches during tryouts. The kids in question were very good and likely to make a team.

Last year, no one verified our address so we could have entered a friend's address or PO box to register.

Fairfax County residents can only play for Fairfax County based teams. Arlington County residents can only play for Arlington teams.

I fully recognize I may be missing something, but I really don’t get the appeal of this league. We have a well run rec basketball program. There is a parent who hasn’t coached before who wants their kid to play fcybl. So they are coaching our zip code fcybl team. It seems like I can pay more money and drive all over nova for games to have an inexperienced parent coach, or I can play Rec and have all games at super close by gyms. Dc is very angry with me that I wouldn’t let them try out for fcybl. I don’t understand the appeal.

I was manager for my kids' teams from 2016-2020 in Arlington, and all kids who made the APS team had to screenshot their Studentvue page from APS with their address and school. I would expect that to still happen about a week after tryouts.

You don't understand the difference between a travel sport and a rec sport?
Most people prefer the far more extensive practice time (because kids don't improve on rec teams practicing once a week) and playing high school rules basketball. FCYBL is more games than a rec season.
If your kid doesn't want to improve their basketball skills, than rec is fine. It sounds like you just don't understand basketball.

Our rec league is 3x a week in a combo of practices and games. At least the people trying to recruit dc said it was the same commitment.
