zip codes are out and have changed
how does the zip code exception get applied to returning players who are no longer zip code eligible or to best player not zip eligible is there a minimum for roster that have to be zip eligible? |
| Thanks for the heads up as we try to decide and prioritize where to try out! |
|
Lol there's no "best player exception" and no one is grandfathered in.
Each team gets a max of two out-of-zip code exceptions. Everyone else has to be in-zip code. They usually don't change much if at all. Which organization lost a zip code? |
|
I have heard of places adding zip codes but never losing them.
Who lost zip codes? |
Most coaches will use one of their 2 zip code exceptions per team to keep their best player. Each team gets 2 players who don't live in one of the assigned zip codes (they have to still live in the same county though). I'm really curious about what club lost a zip code! I have never seen that before. What org was this? |
|
In this league, to lose a zip code means that the organization's house league program has basically no players from that zip code in its house league. I believe the first 95% of your house league zip codes are your assigned zip codes.
So I am interested in this travel team that had so many players from a Zip code that doesn't feed in to its house league. |
| Burke and BRYC must have absolutely enormous rec programs. |
|
From what I can tell, great falls lost 22101 and 20191.
|
Oops, meant to type 22102. Which makes sense, as who would drive so far from Mclean to do Great Falls Rec basketball? You would do Mclean most likely. |
| I imagine GF is savvy enough to appeal if they lost two zip codes where most of their travel players live. |
It's not rec that's the issue. It's select. |
Very close to the formation of team days. How long does an appeal take? |
The zip codes for travel are based on the zip codes of the kids registered for the org's REC league. If kids from that zip code dont play GReat Falls Rec, then Great Falls select doesn't get to pull players from that area. |
Understood but it's the Select teams that are going to take issue with the zip rules. |
The zip codes are based on a simple mathematical formula so there isn't a lot to appeal. Either someone from Great Falls made a mistake with their calculation, or enough kids from those zip codes didn't play Great Falls rec basketball last year and so those zip codes didn't make the cut off. If no math error was made, there is no basis to appeal. |
