If you were a short child, did you end up becoming a short adult?

I was one of the shorter kids most of elementary. I also have a late summer birthday so was younger. I hit a major growth spurt around 10-11. I did not reach my full adult height to the end of high school which is unusual for a girl. I’m 5’10”.

My husband is 6' and he says he was always short through 9th grade. He was also very young for grade (started in private that had a different cutoff) so that might be a part of it.

When did you get your period?

She's 5'3" and doesn't like the idea that she's just a little shorter than average, or even average. She likes the idea of being a itty-bitty, cute little woman. Like someone you could just tuck away in your pocket and carry around. So she's fighting the idea that she's actually statistically extremely normal and not actually special in any way.

Da fook you talking about

lol wtf! This is my favorite post. I can’t tell if you are a weirdo who fetishizes short women or you are chastising weirdos who fetishize short women. Hilarious and bizarre either way!

No. I was second shortest boy in my class in the third grade. Ended up 6' 1".

No I was always the shortest and smallest girl in my grade through 6th/7th grade. After puberty, I shoe up and as an adult, I’m 5’7.”

My daughter (now 20) and I stopped in 7th grade at 5’10”. My mom was 6” by 8th grade.

My dad grew 5 inches through college (final height 6’4”).

My husband (5’7”) stopped growing in 7th grade.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with our son (18) who was 6’4” in 7th grade. He may take after my dad and grow through colege or my husband and no more growth after 14.

We’ll see

You are posting in the short thread, not tall

Always among the shortest in my class growing up, always stood in the front row for class photos, etc. Still short at 5'2". I'm impressed with posters who know when they stopped growing, when they had a growth spurt, etc. I have no idea.

5'2" here. Always been short. I feel like maybe in early high school I was not as noticeably short b/c some of the girls but I definitely notice how short I am when I am with other women professionally now. I always wear heels.

No, being youngest in class was also shortest until 8th grade then grew over summer before 9th grade. Not too tall but above average.

It's not unless you think facts are optional.

It's because it doesn't take genetic background into consideration and that’s what people are comparing themselves against. I'm 5'4. For every country of my heritage (white, Northern European) the average height is 5'6 to 5'7, so 5'4 is short. Sure, the average female height in Nicaragua is 5'1, so maybe 5'4 is tall! But people compare themselves most directly to people who look like them. The US is extremely heterogenous so you get a lot of extremes that play into that average but it might feel like that doesn't apply to you. It goes in both directions.

This.

This is why a white guy who is 5-7 feels like a total shrimp in most settings even though the average male height in this country is 5-9.
