You didn’t. My kid forgot her lunch a few times last year. The first time I quickly added money to MySchoolBucks. She didn’t even try to buy and was fine waiting until she got home. The money was there for any other times she forgot.

Admittedly I ordered UberEats when my kid forgot her lunch, but we are also at a small private that does not have a cafeteria. Sure, I suppose she could have waited to eat until she got home, but then everyone has to deal with a hangry kid and no one wants that.

I felt like this was a special circumstance; I wouldn't do it just for kicks.

Odd that the other kids wouldn't share food with your kid. That's what we always did at my small private.

I find it hard to believe the school couldn’t cobble together some stuff for her to eat: a PB&J, granola bar, graham crackers, apples, bananas, a lunchable. Surely they keep some food/snacks around for this purpose.

This is what our small private does. Basically a lunch of snacks. Not great, but works for one day and maybe helps kid remember their lunch next time. We sent in a bag of snacks the next day to bolster the supply for the next kid.

Out fcps elementary is ok with the parents dropping off take out and kids picking it up from the office. We send the nanny sometimes.

Public schools will give the student a hot lunch in this case.

A couple of years ago the principal told us several times at the beginning of the year that they were no longer allowed to do this and if our kid forgot lunch the only thing they could give was a cheese sandwich. She said please please please add “just in case” $ to myschoolbucks because she hated the new policy but was stuck.

Your kids go to public school don’t they?

One of mine does. My younger kid at FCPS has the lunch account. My high schooler goes to private. If he forgets his lunch he waits or more likely, gets food from friends. He doesn’t have the cash to order delivery.

It was public school but my child probably did not know this as he had hot lunch 1 time in kindergarten and never wanted it again.

I wouldn’t want a school lunch either if I knew my mom would send me McDonald’s
