Guest etiquette- towels

I buy my towels and linens from Overstock. You can get high quality towels for very reasonable prices.

OP, I am with you. If I had noticed, I would have told you and offered to replace the towels.

I had guests pee on my mattress, dog pee on the carpet... no word. I think it is rude not to say something to the host.

Your towels aren't high quality. They could have cost a lot but that is not a reflection of quality. I've not seen acne medication change the color of my towels. Even the darkest of blue towels.

It's not a big deal in the end. Go to one ofnthe big box stores and get more towels. I have started using black towels for guest because of make up and body fluids. Don't want people embarrassed.

So far op has had suggested she buy black, white, no colors, not white and never grey. Buy what you like and know accidents happen.

Why are you buying $40 towels when you have a toddler who apparently destroys them?

They WEREN’T cheap towels, and now they are basically bleached in places- I agree that again, they were the wrong towels to use for guests.

I’m just surprised because, if I had been in the situation, I would have:
1) known my kids use a topical thing that destroys towels and given my host a heads up OR
2) seen the damage and offered to buy new towels

It’s not a huge deal, I’m just surprised that the consensus is so different than how I personally would have handled the situation. idk. My baby threw up in my IL’s car and we offered to have it detailed- I would just assume it’s a common courtesy to at least apologize for leaving something worse off than when you came

OP, I have teens. Teens are different than babies. Parents of teens do not always know what they are using on their face, and they certainly are not inspecting their towels after they shower.

Years from now, you will know this.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Well that’s gross, though a bit different than what OP’s issue is. Obviously, your solution is never invite them or their dog to stay over again. Hotel room it is!

What?? No. Benzoyl peroxide will bleach any towel regardless of quality. It shows up after washing. It is likely that the teens use white towels at home and didn't realize this would happen (or think about it), and the bleach stains typically don't appear until after washing in my experience.

Black towels? Gross. White towels can be bleached. Makeup stains are easy to get out of a white towel.

Lol at "wedding towels". How long ago did you get married? Towels don't last forever anyway.

This shouldn't be that big of a deal to you. Things happen. Go to homegoods and buy new towels. White this time.

Probably moms retinol. Not teens strides pads.

OP, they were offered those towels. it is not their responsibility to judge, where on the spectrum of towels and what degree of use, will tick you off.

pp again
They are towels. Valuing your relationship with these people and being gracious knowing sometimes people: make mistakes, aren't paying attention as you would, that's more important than towels. It always is.

It’s not a daily occurrence. It may happen and if it does I don’t have a panic attack about it like OP. If a couple towels break the bank then maybe you need to find a better job.

I highly doubt your guests were aware they'd damaged your towels.

100% this is what happened. The discoloration didn't even show up until after you washed them, OP.
