Do you reserve the right to check your college kids’ texts if you’re paying the phone bill?

Yes. I pay for all of these things.

OP: if your child objects, they can pay for it all themselves.

Exercise your rights.

Cool. Drive your child to sugaring for a profession. Parent of the year right here.

You sound unusually unhinged today PP. Forget your meds again?

Ah. Unhinged. That classic internet zing. Sweetie, I’m not the one going full-on Stasi on my poor kid.

There is certainly some version of Godwin's law for "unhinged" on DCUM, but I have no idea of what its name might be.

Heck no. SMH. No.

I hate when old threads such as this get drummed up again.

I'm 41 and I am still on my parents' phone plan but they do not check my texts! I am married with 3 kids - but my husband has his phone through work so I just never left my parents' plan and they even added my 14 year old to their plan too. It's basically my bday gift from them every year.

I recommend flipping the direction of that, to help them as they age and experience cognitive decline.

Maybe I will eventually! It's not a bad idea. Thx.

This is so strange to be on your parents’ plan as a grown married person and to have your kid too.

What difference does it make? I don't care if they see who I am talking to. I don't talk to anyone interesting.

P.S. it started because I was talking to them the most so it was free that way.

No. It would only make things worse.

No, no, no. Please don’t do that. Think back to when you were in college. And the conversation you had with your friends. Now imagine your mother was there every time and you could develop no relationship in private without her knowing every thought. It is a terrible idea to look at your kids text past middle school.
