Would you pay $10k to rent a beach house?

I’m early retired and stayed the whole three weeks and all of the kids and grandkids and their spouses came and went for as long as they could given work and school schedules. It was awesome. I’d never spent $10k on a NC house for four days though. What a waste of money.

I wish some of you would post links to these vacation rentals.

NP and I understand why they don’t. They might want to book again and don’t want to find all the spots taken by lazy DCUM posters who can’t do their own damn research for their own damn vacations. PP is not your FREE concierge travel agent.

You sound like a real hoot.

Boring, janky East Coast beaches are the opposite of a “hoot,” so there’s that. I like *nice* beaches, so that rules out the entire East Coast. (No, you don’t know a “gem of a place” that can hold a candle to Caribbean/island beaches.) Spare me your rough, cold surf and shell-y sharp sand.

G-dam. Some of y’all are bitter folks. I’m going through a pretty rough time in my marriage, but can’t imagine being this nasty to strangers on the internet.

Sounds like it’s in the middle of nowhere.

I just want to make sure I’m thinking this through and not acting irrationally. Honestly not sure how much longer my parents will be around, and I know they want to include the family members that have not committed.

I’ve been through this. If you want to go and you can afford it then book it. As soon as you put conditions on the decision- about the family members that won’t commit or the ones that only want to stay half the time, it becomes a chore and a burden.

No, I wouldn’t. I would spend $10k for an amazing holiday in Europe instead. Or Costa Rica. Or Oaxaca.

All that money for a pretty crappy vacation in Delaware or NC? No.

10k for 4 days?

If you have that kind of money and you like it, then yes, you should go for it. Live your best life.

Based on your question, no, I would not. But I don’t care for the beach and don’t have money to spend like that.

There are so many better vacations for $10K than a short vacation on a cold, rough East Coast beach. I truly don’t understand why people do this. “Vacations” do not start with having to do a huge grocery shop and put sheets on bunk beds.

Um I get not wanting to share a specific rental but the entire point of the travel forum is to share travel tips, ask questions, etc. This is part of people’s research. To get people’s opinions. Why are you hanging out in the travel forum?

NP. Agree that OP has the money for the half. But maybe she does not have or unwilling to pay for the entire amount. Bottom line, she wants others to help pay for the vacation that she wants.

I agree.

But sometimes grandparents can’t/won’t fly, travel abroad, etc. and the goal is to simply bring everyone under one roof.

In the year of seaweed globs covering all beaches, I have no desire to go to a beach town.

Also, sea is the home of sharks and riptides. Sorry.

$10,000 for a long weekend is way out of our budget.
