Annandale has great places to eat, though. But I wouldn't buy a house just to get some good takeout.

Do tell what you mean by "schools are terrible"?

Were the Justice High students admitted this year or last year to Princeton, American, Notre Dame, Yale, Syracuse, Cal Tech, Ohio State, Michigan, Wesleyan, Penn State, UVA, William & Mary, UCLA, JMU, GW, Georgia, Smith, Clemson, Rutgers, USC, Virginia Tech, Middlebury, Georgetown, Maryland, Pitt, and W&L not served well?

Oh, come off it. Justice is a troubled school with — among other things — high student poverty rates, high teacher turnover rates, and low academic achievement. It’s at the bottom of the barrel along with the likes of Lewis and Annandale. Sure, some students go on to prestigious colleges and universities (Justice like all FCPS high schools is large) but don’t give off an impression that that’s typical. Those kids are in a very small minority.

The destinations are representative of the children whose parents frequent this forum.

Why are you so hostile? Does it bother you that you went deep into debt to buy a house in the Langley district only to find out the top kids at Justice go to top schools while your Langley kid barely got into JMU?

You call the person you’re responding to “hostile”, and then you go on to insult their child. I can’t believe there are people who are as unpleasant as you.

Since PP responded to a poster who called Justice kids the "bottom of the barrel," I have to assume you're either a troll or an idiot.

Actually the PP called the school at the bottom of the barrel, not the kids.

Suggest you all put your emotions in check and actually read what’s being posted.

It's clear that the reference to the school was intended to refer to the backgrounds of the students who attend the school. You're a putz.

You insulted one of the PP’s children, and are just repeatedly hurling insults left and right at other PP’s. The very definition of miserable — are you off of your SSRI’s or something?

If you swim in lake barcroft you might see a turd or two float by your face 💩. Lovely neighborhood, but the facts remain.

I don’t think you understand the concept of homeownership in the U.S. Mortgages are not “debt.” The Langley zone house will be worth double the Justice zone house when it comes time for the family to sell. And real estate is a great investment, because no bank would give you hundreds of thousands of dollars to invest in the stock market, but they’ll give you it to invest in real estate.

Someone isn't too familiar with margin lending.

But obviously your agenda is to prop up high values in one school district relative to another. God forbid that buyers stopped paying the same premium to avoid living near poorer people.

They’re not going to do that. Not here, there or anywhere, ever.

As the saying goes, if you see a poor person and a rich person living on the same street, it won’t be that way for long.

I’ve always been surprised that these neighborhoods aren’t more popular, but for the residents, these neighborhoods truly feel like an urban oasis.

Lake Barcroft is very beautiful, but like the other neighborhoods, is surrounded by the most unattractive suburban sprawl. There are a some exceptions: The Moasic is a nice commercial neighborhood close to Holmes Run Acres. Lake Barcroft is not far from the attractive commercial areas in the City of Falls Church and Arlington. Hollin Hills is near Old Town Alexandria. Reston of course has the famed European inspired Lake Anne Plaza.

People pay a hefty premium for that aesthetic. And most of the homes were designed by locally famous architects. But they are often sold as-is so expect to pay for a thorough renovation respectful of the architectural style. New kitchens are easily 100-200k.

No, that would be you. You obviously dashed off 3-4 posts here in a row.

It's not clear why you keep trying to dig that hole deeper when it's already obvious yours is big enough.

I had no idea Lake Barcroft even existed until I went to some kids birthday party when I was a kid. It’s hidden away behind all the sprawl and garden apartments.

Isn’t it all muck and weeds?

Looked like that whilst on our pontoon boat ride.

I posted twice in this entire thread excluding this post. Please re-up on your SSRI prescription so you can stop getting into these little tiffs on the internet where you insult high schoolers and resort to name calling. It's a waste of everyone's time.

You sound really invested in trashing a neighborhood that undoubtedly has far more character and amenities than yours. Get lost, loser.

Can confirm. The turds are pretty beat up by the time they make it into the lake, but it still isn't pleasant to have one pop you in the face while you are enjoying your 4th of July. I won't swim in there again, but if any of you decide to definitely wear goggles so you don't get someone's steamy number two in your cornea and wind up with a severe infection that requires a hospital trip. Trust me on this.

I actually like Lake Barcroft so I don't know what you are talking about. Look, I have sympathy for people with mental health issues and depression such as yourself, but when you start calling people "losers" and insulting people's children as a grown ass adult, it goes away. Please for your own sake fix your mental health / depression problems.

People ask about Lake Barcroft regularly on this forum, and them the same snotty posters who give off a definite North Arlington/McLean/Vienna vibe invariably respond with some combination of the following: 1. The houses are old; 2. The lake is gross; and 3. The schools are bad. They seem to be deathly afraid that someone might prefer a mid-century house with lake access and diverse schools over their uptight neighborhoods.

There are more turds on this forum than in the lake, but most LB residents actually are happy with their neighborhood being a hidden gem. So we don't push back when the inevitable insults come raining down, except every now and then, and then the DCUM harpies are so taken aback that they just double down with the insults. It's very obvious, and it's truly sad you people suck as much as you do.
