Is Lake Barcroft a hidden gem?

Anonymous
I just drove through this neighborhood for the first time and was really impressed. Tons of old trees, a busy community beach park, mix of housing stock. I never hear anyone talk about this area - seems like a quiet little oasis inside the beltway.

Trying to sell a house in the neighborhood?

Schools are not good, but neighborhood is nice.

Holmes Run Acres, Mantua, Hollin Hills, parts of Reston, and Lake Barcroft are all hidden gems with most of the region’s significant mid century modern and 70s-80s modern homes. So if you like that 20th century minimalist aesthetic those are your best bets.

I’ve always been surprised that these neighborhoods aren’t more popular, but for the residents, these neighborhoods truly feel like an urban oasis.

Lake Barcroft is very beautiful, but like the other neighborhoods, is surrounded by the most unattractive suburban sprawl. There are a some exceptions: The Moasic is a nice commercial neighborhood close to Holmes Run Acres. Lake Barcroft is not far from the attractive commercial areas in the City of Falls Church and Arlington. Hollin Hills is near Old Town Alexandria. Reston of course has the famed European inspired Lake Anne Plaza.

Mantua is close to The Mosaic and Old Town Fairfax. The schools zoned to Mantua are more popular than those zoned to Lake Barcroft. But both are nice communities and hidden gems.

OP here: THANK YOU!

I’m not a realtor and I’m not selling our house (in Arlington). I actually just drove through for the first time.

People sell houses via Zillow and Redfin - why would anyone waste time marketing to a few hundred malcontents on DCUM?

I think Lake Barcroft is hidden because there are few obvious through streets. Getting to a Sleepy Hollow Road fromm Seven Corners is very tricky.

Well, the lake is disgusting and the schools are horrible but other than that…

I thought the residents swim and boat in the lake?

I don’t think the lake is disgusting but the area surrounding the Lake Barcroft neighborhood is rough which results in horrible schools. I was over there a couple weeks ago and it is a lovely neighborhood but the surrounding area is awful so it’s a no go for me.

If you think Mantua is not popular, you haven't[ been looking for houses recently. Nothing they're under a million right now and they are being snapped up within days. Also unlike the other neighborhoods you mentioned, the schools are excellent.
