The optics are still horrible. If a GOP’r was president it might be a funny way to needle them, but it’s a totally awful idea right now. |

WAMU recently did a good story on how the NPS screws over DC:

If a GOPr was president the problem wouldn’t exist. |
Your right - Haines Point would just be underwater because of climate change. |
Yes, and polar bears were supposed to be extinct by now as well. Do human’s impact climate yes, has the planet gone through periods of warming and cooling, yes and for most of those cycles humans in any form were not around. But fear almost always overrides facts. Have a nice day. Don’t forget to research how much carbon is pumped into the atmosphere to build and charge your electric car. |
Psssst - polar bears pretty much are extinct now. There’s like what, 50-60 left? They’ll never recover as a species. That’s essentially extinct, genius. |
If the Park Service is so broke it can start balancing its books by #defundingParkPolice |
Again those pesky facts get in the way. There are between 3-4 times the number of polar bears today than in the 1970s. Wasn’t that about the time that the climate crisis began. Here is a link on the number of polar bears today https://fee.org/articles/the-myth-that-the-polar-bear-population-is-declining/ which puts the number at 450 to 500 times your number. |
Just stop with science already. We know what the problem is. Republicans. It's always Republicans. I stubbed my toe yesterday. Do you know why? Yep, Republicans! |
Yes you’re right. I lapsed into follow the science mode. How Democratic of me.

You're an idiot. The changes you're referring to happened on long geological scales of tens of thousands of years. Man made climate change has been a significant acceleration that started with the industrial age, where by extracting coal, oil and gas we have pumped countless billions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere over the span of just the last 150 years, far more than forest fires, volcanism or any other natural causes in the last several million years. |
No my friend, you are the frightened idiot. To far gone to be helped. |
| Ok, so, back to talking about Hains Point... |
|
Golf is the best use of the land. Green space better than a concert venue or migrant housing.
Haines Point has been around for over 130 years and will no doubt be around for 130 more. |
No one but golfers considers a golf course real green space. It's fenced off from the general public unless they pay, it's not particularly attractive, it does little to support wildlife or biodiversity and it requires an abundance of chemicals to be maintained. Not to mention, will golf even be a major sport 130 years from now? COVID provided a brief boost, but pre-pandemic, there had been a steady decline for like two decades. |
