Hains Point

Haines Point has been around for over 130 years and will no doubt be around for 130 more.

No one but golfers considers a golf course real green space. It's fenced off from the general public unless they pay, it's not particularly attractive, it does little to support wildlife or biodiversity and it requires an abundance of chemicals to be maintained.

Not to mention, will golf even be a major sport 130 years from now? COVID provided a brief boost, but pre-pandemic, there had been a steady decline for like two decades.

Golf is doing just fine these days. Appreciate your concern however. Hope your favorite sport is doing well.

You have be a troll. Or really breathtakingly stupid.

Please explain what is breathtakingly stupid about building housing for poor people who are arriving to this country with nothing but the clothes on their backs? Thugs like Abott and DeSantis are sending people to DC with nothing. Doesn’t it make sense to build a place where they can can stay until they get on their feet?

Simply the fact that the land won't support the building or infrastructure. However, the White House lawn would work and with the security in place there everyone would be much safer as well.

The White House lawn? That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Totally unfeasible, not too mention it would ruin the entire visual aesthetic of the seat of power of our country, turning the executive mansion into a refugee camp. You must be a trumper, because only a trumper could come up with something so incredibly dumb.

It would show true humanitarian caring for America's newest residents, akin to how Washington, DC housed WWI veterans during the Bonus Expeditionary Forces march on Washington in 1932.

The optics are still horrible. If a GOP’r was president it might be a funny way to needle them, but it’s a totally awful idea right now.

If a GOPr was president the problem wouldn’t exist.

Your right - Haines Point would just be underwater because of climate change.

Yes, and polar bears were supposed to be extinct by now as well. Do human’s impact climate yes, has the planet gone through periods of warming and cooling, yes and for most of those cycles humans in any form were not around.

But fear almost always overrides facts. Have a nice day. Don’t forget to research how much carbon is pumped into the atmosphere to build and charge your electric car.

Girl, you are not too bright. Do you know what’s happening to the polar bear population. Find something else to make your silly point. https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/polar-bear#:~:text=The%20loss%20of%20sea%20ice,the%20survival%20of%20polar%20bears.

Ok, let’s add a polar bear habitat to Hains Point. Golfers and environmentalists will both be happy.

I’ll be honest and say I don’t really care about climate change. AI will probably figure out how to create a new habitable planet that will also be able to biodegrade plastics, etc, anyway, so everyone can just move there.

ChatGPT what is the best use of Hains Point?

ChatGPT: Golf silly, everyone knows that.

Just a reminder that the entire Tidal Basin is in desperate need of boring engineering repairs and any discussion of changing or fixing anything on Hains Point before that is done is a colossal waste of time and money.

Yes but it gives the anti golf trolls something to do.

It is very encouraging to see other people that are concerned with the Decay at Haines point and remember also it's great history. The National Park service appears not to be maintaining their own buildings in the area and they have obviously another Focus for their personnel and resources. I believe that the benches and trees and grounds could be given a yearly maintenance from a friends of the park group organization

Hains Point is like the rest of DC, on a never ending cycle of decay and despair.

I love this place. I been going there at least once every 1-2 months since 2007.
