Played 9 holes with my sons on Sunday. Course was packed, range was full, half a dozen people on the chipping green.
In other words- it was fully utilized. |
| I always heard that the national parks service makes sure its DC properties look crappy to pressure Congress for more funding. Idk if it’s true but they definitely neglect them compared to the parks out west and such. |
| Golf courses are an elitist waste of space. It should be eliminated and replaced with short term housing villages for newly-arrived citizens. |
Golf courses bring about peace. No country with a ratio of 1 million people per course or less has ever waged war against another nation with 1 million people per course. So close golf courses and ensure war. |
You have be a troll. Or really breathtakingly stupid. |
No republican politician make hay by voting against “government waste” like 40 million for sodding the mall. No way they willl vote to restore walls around the tidal basin. As far the parks out west, they are in bad shape and under funded. The rangers can not even stop the poaching of wild life(hunting elk and deer in the national park). The animals are essentially tame so there is no sport in it. Also illegal logging in the NP is pretty bad. The National Park Service presently has a cumulative monetary shortfall of approximately $11.1 billion. Think about a billion is in DC(national mall, museums, etc). I bet Biden and McCarthy will cut the NP budget this week. |
Please explain what is breathtakingly stupid about building housing for poor people who are arriving to this country with nothing but the clothes on their backs? Thugs like Abott and DeSantis are sending people to DC with nothing. Doesn’t it make sense to build a place where they can can stay until they get on their feet? |
| It hasn’t been the same since The Awakening statue moved to National Harbor. On Haines Point the statue looked like a wild man was coming out of the ground in a natural setting. In National Harbor it looks like a zombie escaping from a coffin. |
DP... it's a manmade island constructed from dredged material, not exactly geotechnically stable for building huge residential units for hundreds of people. Not to mention all of the other infrastructure and logistics hurdles. |
That's well and good, but something like an outdoor concert venue could be hosting hundreds or thousands of people in the same space. |
|
There are SO many articles on the history of Haines Point. A google search will do.
Breadcrumbs, historically it has been a place where African-American families congregate, have family picnics, fish, watch 4th of July fireworks, play tennis, golf, swim, have dinner (there was a restaurant there for many years). Almost 100 years. Generally West Potomac Park Ohio Drive / Polo Grounds = White Recreation , East Potomac Park Haines Point = Black People |
Simply the fact that the land won't support the building or infrastructure. However, the White House lawn would work and with the security in place there everyone would be much safer as well. |
I believe there are multiple other locations in DC that serve as concerts venues. I personally have been to multiple concerts on the Capital Steps, to the Mall, to Carter Barron, to Nats Park. Confident that DC does not need another underutilized concert venue for 2-3 concerts a year. |
While no fan of these Governors, I fail to see why DC taxpayers should spend money housing these poor people. Money is limited. DC should focus on the needs of its current residents. |
