Same in our McLean neighborhood. HS destinations, HS graduations & college destinations and the occasional birthday. I like seeing all the signs!

I like seeing all the signs, but the Google car will record all that information. Depends how private you are.

I think the birthday ones are especially problematic with regard to identity theft.

If you think this is not already in all your data online, you are mistaken. You don't need a google car.

Wondering if this is a common thing to receive? I don't think I've noticed any such signs in our neighborhood, but not a lot of similarly aged kids around here either.

Lol. Maybe because there most people actually own houses with yards.

It's ok to be jealous, OP.

Colleges turn down thousands each year - they don't need advertising.

My kid's friends received a sign and/or small flag from VT, JMU, VCU, Clemson, couple other OOS. They received all sorts of swag in the mail and more at admitted student day.

How often does the Google car come by, though? We have friends who have lived in their house for more than two years and google doesn’t even have their (new) street yet.

I think it’s weird. Same with bumper stickers. For some reason it seems different to me than wearing a school sweatshirt or something like that.

What kind of sheltered world do you come from that you think going to an out-of-state school is a unique choice?

The vast majority of colleges out there, the ones you don’t see mentioned on DCUM, most definitely do not turn down thousands of applicants & will take any free advertising they can get.

You’re rather classist.

Not one for advertising that we have kids going to college & where, playing on certain sports teams, etc.

I live in Georgetown. I have never seen such a sign.

There is no way YOU know all of the interesting choices

you are being obnoxious for no reason

I got a bumper sticker in the mail from my school 20 years ago

Bethesda area and saw plenty last year and year before. Haven’t seen any this year.

Also we have a few neighbors that buy the school flag to hang at their porch. A few of our neighbors do this - rotating flags for various schools they are associated with (themselves or kids) and for professional sports teams throughout the year. It's not bragging - just celebrating.

It definitely looked like bragging when a family near us hung a huge flag on the house and all three cars parked out front suddenly had large magnets plus prominent license plate accessories for a certain Ivy League school… right after decisions came out. I guess maybe cool for their kid, but it was a little over the top.
