DS' college sent us a yard sign to announce his choice

Not our style to display it in the front yard, but I imagine they go over big in the midwestern state where the college is located.

Wondering if this is a common thing to receive? I don't think I've noticed any such signs in our neighborhood, but not a lot of similarly aged kids around here either.

Signs like that are very common around here.

Weird flex to be too cool for the school your kid is going to attend (not pike those flyover nerds he'll be attending with!), but: congrats?

My parents were like this. "We don't do bumper stickers," etc. They thought it was bragging and that was bad manners.

Extremely common to receive & display them around here.

Oh stop it. Btw, you know we don’t use that word in polite company outside the UK, right? Eww.

Nope. Most colleges on the East Coast do not send lawn signs. Can’t speak to Midwest or West Coast. We do have a lot of blingy high school graduation yard signs in the area (which run the gamut) so go for it if it makes your grad happy!

I've always figured parents who claim to be above this type of thing (yard signs, bumper stickers, sweatshirts) were just embarrassed by the school.

No, we did not receive one for DS nor have I seen them around where we live. But we kept DD's 5th grade graduation lawn sign for like 2 years in our yard! It was a Covid graduation and then we sort of liked it around and it stayed, and eventually it fell apart.

So I'm not averse to lawn signs

See those all the time outside big expensive houses in Bethesda.

I am always happy to see those college yard signs.

Where do you live? I'm in North Arlington and they're everywhere!

OP. Do you live in a neighborhood where many of the kids don't go to college? A very blue-collar neighborhood perhaps? Low SES? That might explain why you don't see many signs.
