Jawando is behind way too many people in line for Cardin’s seat. He’s better off staying where he is, building more credentials, and running for county exec or even Governor down the road.

NP. Never heard of Jawando or most of the others mentioned here.

Raskin is way better known statewide than Trone and beat him in the primary for his seat.

A year+ in politics is an eternity, but I would call a Democratic primary for Raskin.

A true male pattern baldness god w/ legendary SIDES. He will be missed.

And if we could turn back the clock to the political atmosphere 10 or 20 years, he would probably win. Today, I don't see Maryland sending a Republican to the Senate.

More than ten or twenty. Maryland hasn’t elected a Republican US Senator since 1980.

Trone has more money, though. And Raskin has a few prominent positions in House leadership/committees and might want to stay there. Although I thought that about Adam Schiff and he’s running for Senate.

It will be weird - great but weird - if both US Senators are from Montgomery County. Usually statewide politicians are from the Baltimore area instead.

I think Johnny O might get in - he’s the Baltimore County Executive. Maybe Sarbanes or Ruppersberger?

Also just remembered John Delaney, who was the House member before Trone who ran for POTUS in 2020. He also has a ton of money.

True, but it didn't help him in the primary for what is now Raskin's seat. The latter also beat Mrs. Chris Mathews in the same primary, without spending a lot of money.

True, but Trone is a lot stronger now as a 2 or 3 term incumbent congressman than when he was running in that race as a relatively unknown, semi carpetbagger.

Jawando doesn’t represent the present or the future of Maryland IMO. Maryland is solidly Democratic but not progressive.

Jawando will not have my vote, primary or general.

I really hope Alsobrooks gets in the race, and wins. She's great.

Trone has entered the race. I don’t know much about him. Google shows he describes himself as a practical progressive. It’s hard to envision a self described progressive as being popular in western Maryland. How does he compare to the other candidates?

Kathleeb Mathews has had a much more public career in the area and, until the last ten years or so, was probably the primary breadwinner and more recognizable partner in that relationship. But those aren't the only reasons you should call her by her name...
