whose seniors haven't decided yet?

Coming down to the wire here with choice between Davidson and UVA out of state (in also at UMD in state but kid isn't feeling it). With generous financial aid, Davidson is only about $5k per year more than UVA. Sporty kid wants to study economics. His best friend is going to UVA but our son liked Davidson more before he learned where his bestie was going. Husband wants him to stay closer and save $5k/yr but I'm thinking he'll do better in a smaller school environment with much more personalized attention from profs and smaller classes. To me, Davidson academically is every much the equal at the very least to UVA but hubby disagrees. We're road tripping to Charlottesville this weekend to take one last look.

Oh that’s a tough one. Any decision?

I feel ya! My child is now 31 years old and when he had to decide, you had to SNAIL MAIL the deposit! My DH and I were hoping for 1 school and he was holding out for the other. His decision, his choice. At the end,I had to Fed Ex the deposit. Add $20 to his education tally.

Just this week she's decided she's worried about choosing the "lower ranked" school, even though it's likely the better fit. I'm sure a lot of it is just freaking out about the future, but it's getting ridiculous. Please tell me I'm not the only one dealing with this right now.

tell us where she’s deciding between, and I’m sure we can figure out where she should go!!!

Wake Forest and Davidson

Well your DD rocks for one since both amazing schools with limitless possibilities. If your DD was into social scene in high school, Wake is going to have more of a path to satisfy that desire. Davidson is recruited by top finance firms more than Wake but Wake has more of the humanities “extracurricular” what with the Maya Angelou connection and #1 nationally ranked debate team. Others may disagree but I think Davidson slightly more prestigious if that matters. Good luck in deciding.

May I ask if he submitted scores in 1300s to UMD? I’m trying to figure out if that’s what leads to spring start. Wondering if my junior should go TO if doesn’t break 1400.

No. 1550 but weak ECs and a couple Cs during covid.

Thank you! There was also a rumor on here about not getting in if any Cs. You’ve at least debunked that as to spring admission. Congrats on great options!

dp.. I wonder if UMD gave students a pass during covid, so for future admits, they won't be as generous.

OP here - choices are UMD and Towson.

Is the tuition difference too difficult to afford? If you can afford it I would recommend UMD instead

+1 why is Towson a better fit?

Due to circumstances (not aid), UMD is actually cheaper, but not so much as to be an issue either way. DD's personality is not a go-getter type, and it seems like Towson is probably a bit easier to navigate (in every way). I think she's capable of being successful at UMD, but whether she would really be able to handle it could go either way.

I'd recommend trying Maryland and if it doesn't work out, transfer. Remind her of all the opportunities Maryland has to offer.

Have her go to Maryland day tomorrow 4/28. I hear it's really great.

Jumping in re: the Davidson decision ... and you may have researched this thoroughly. Is the merit aid, from year to year, contingent on keeping a certain GPA. I have a very cynical thought ~ universities know historical grade distributions for the classes your DC will take, their major. You don't. The applicant is at a disadvantage here, if keeping the merit aid is paramount.

JMU or High Point as a STEM major.

My DD just accepted JMU today!

Mine decided at 11:30 pm on May 1st last year. It was stressful. She's happy with her choice.

OP, has your DD decided yet? We were in the same situation, and my DD finally committed to Towson. She felt that it was a better fit for her than Maryland, which felt too big. It is a huge relief to have the decision made.

Good luck to your DD with her decision.

Our DC did not get a pass for Covid even though he had similar SAT as the PP. He applied for CS, which probably made the difference.
