Thanks! We were accepted at NPS and St. Patrick’s, both of which we absolutely loved.

If you go to NPS, prepare your kid for bullying. I remember being so excited for my kid and thinking we found the perfect school but it was a disaster. We lasted one year.

5th. She’s been experiencing bullying this year that is causing her to have panic attacks both in and outside of school. Administration’s response has been underwhelming and ineffective.

This is really sad. Would you share the school or at least general location? DC or MD?

Don't give up hope, waitlists do move! 7th grade is also an another entry year for many. I hope she lands somewhere.

Did you apply to any of the K-8s? Kids do enter at middle school, and a place like Sheridan or Lowell would provide some relief from the bullying. I know the admissions season is over, but perhaps you could call admissions and explain your situation. We are at one of these schools an it is not unheard of for a child to join mid-year.

You should call admissions and speak with them. They want your child and many will go back and look over your FA application and see if they can come up with something. Worst thing that happens is they tell you no but you really should ask.

Thrilled we got into a private (only applied to 1 private) and nervous - we've gone from a DC Charter to a DCPS and now for Middle going private - I turned down Basis last year for 5th grade with a waitlist number of 4 - although my kid could probably handle the work, the location and lack of facilities did not sit well with me. Now that this opportunity worked out, I am happy we didnt take the slot, I might not have ventured into considering private and overall we feel that this is the best fit for my kid.

He's a straight A's student in MCPS honors classes, plays two sports and has a very good personality that all of his teachers appreciate.

I am 100% not a troll. My DS is not perfect but he is very charismatic, funny, and smart. He knows it and tends to be able to gain acceptance in all circles and his teachers always like him. If I could post pictures, I would definitely prove it with the acceptance swag/info that he received.

NP doesn’t sound “off” to me at all. The poster believes the deciding factor was their son’s personality which distinguished him from the other straight-A unhooked students. Sometimes there are people you meet who are just great to interact with and you wish you could spend more time with them and have them around.

Did you apply to any of the k-8s? Maybe give it some time and call around. Middle school at a k-8 is often their sweet spot and kids do join in 6th and 7th.

I agree the K-8s provide a great option. Most have openings. My son attended Green Acres 6-8 and it was a great experience. Social dynamics vary with every class but his was very supportive and inclusive. The middle school staff were very on top of any social issues that arose. We were really pleased. His older sister had a bad bullying experience in MCPS in 5th and we wished we had moved her to Green Acres instead of continuing in MCPS. The experiences were night and day. Fortunately, things did improve for her by 8th.

My kids go to Basis. Number 1 school in DC area for academics. You will have all your kids wishing they could get in in the next few years. I’m sure they will end up being more selective than all of your “Big 3” schools as they decline in academic quality and spend their time on Wokeness as an academic focus rather than academic subjects. Send info my kids to school to learn academics, not be taught about social justice, white fragility, defund police…….and that being a Caucasian is the root causes of everting evil in this country. Most people at DC privates are not even considering a school like Basis. They are selecting private for so many reasons and Basis does not offer that. I am glad you are happy there.

I suspect the PP is talking about Basis Charter in DC that does have a waitlist and is lottery based.
