My grandfathers (6'1" and 6'0") parents 6'1" (dad) 5'6" (mom) my sister (5'8") my brother (6'2") and me 5'4" (almost 5'5"). Girl first cousins all 6 (5'10") and uncles (mom's brothers) all tall.
Husband (5'10") Dad and brother (5'11" and 6'0"). Our pediatrician when firstborn was 2 predicted him to be 6'2". He was one of the tallest until around 5th-6th grade and fell to 50% tallest in his classes/teams. He stayed here until 15 when he had a growth spurt. At 16 he was 5'10" (was 5'5" at start of 9th grade). He's 17 and 5'11.5" and had an x-ray for an injury that shows he is still growing. My brother grew in college (2 inches). I think he will be over 6"-6'2" when all is said in done. He grew past almost all of the kids that were taller than him on his teams in 7th-9th. Our almost 15-year old (Freshmen) is very, very skinny but just started to grow. He was shorter than me at Xmas and now is about 2 inches taller. His voice hasn't changed and he has a baby face. He looks smaller than all the kids on the field (due to his skinny build). He was one of the shorter kids in his class for much of elementary school and all of middle school (even more so in middle school). He actually is taller now than his older brother was before he started his growth spurt-so in reality he could end up taller than his older brother which nobody would ever have believed given how much smaller he always was. No idea. It's a weird thing. I was convinced the younger one wasn't going to make it to 5'7" until recently. And now he could be well over 6". He cannot keep any weight on his frame. So skinny, but very active. His brother has an entirely different frame and very thick, broad and muscular and was that way since he was little. One willowy and the other stocky- but otherwise look like clones of one another/very much look alike. |
My kid is 4'11 and will be 13 in April. DH and I are both taller than average. The thing is, all of the means of predicting can ultimately be way off. Your kid WILL have a growth spurt at some point--mine will, too. He isn't going to be a 4'10 adult, But he could be 5'6 or 6'6 or anything in between and you really cannot control it. |

I am 5’6”. DH is 6’2”.
Our daughter (17) is 5’8” and our son (16) is 6’4” and still growing. |
| DS is 5'9. I am 5'5 and DH is 5'7. DD is 5'2 |
Oh please. Just stop. You know, as well as any parent does, how much we don’t want our sons to have to go through life as a short man. Stop pretending it does not matter. |
Are you a man or a woman? |

Dad is 6'1", mom is 5'7". Three kids:
DD (27): 5'10" DS (26): 6'2" DD (20): 5'5" Mom's mom was 5'1". Oldest DD and DS also have blonde hair and blue eyes. Youngest DD has brown hair and brown eyes. Genetics is fun! |
I wonder if your mom was short due to nutrition being poorer back then, and your grandparent's diet. There are posts up thread about diet impacting height. My kids are biracial, and we all have different hair color and skin tone. One kid takes after DH side more, while the other kid takes after my side more. But, then there are bits and pieces that crossover. They are very interesting looking kids (good looking too, but yea, I'm biased). Yes, genetics is indeed interesting. |
I told my (short) sons to just have a big paycheck. Makes up for a LOT. |
