That's what makes it so hard to predict. Both sides are all over the place. My sister and I are both around 5'3" and my parents are on the shorter side but our brothers are both 6'. DH is 6'1" with a brother who's on the shorter side. Their parents are above average in height.

DS is 12 and one of the smaller kids in class at 4'10" and 80lbs. Doesn't help that he has an August birthday. Trying to reassure him that he will have a growth spurt.[/quote]

My kid is 4'11 and will be 13 in April. DH and I are both taller than average. The thing is, all of the means of predicting can ultimately be way off. Your kid WILL have a growth spurt at some point--mine will, too. He isn't going to be a 4'10 adult, But he could be 5'6 or 6'6 or anything in between and you really cannot control it.
