It was going to get out eventually. Do you want to have this conversation now or in a couple months? If your children attend Sidwell, you should be acclimated by now to the fact that certain internal matters will become public and will be discussed and debated. If that bothers you, choose a lower profile school.

Conversation? What is there to converse about? That's the tuition increase; it's not negotiable. Or by conversation do you mean complain?

I’m just bothered by icky parents of whom they’re very few thank goodness.
Why does it need to be debated? What are you going to do? Strike? Other schools cost the same but don’t offer as much.
And actually this is the answer to why SFS? The name alone inspires awe (but also draws out the wormy parents into the sunlight to “share” internal stuff — it’s a privilege you’re getting these comms dunce)

NP. The internal stuff will be publicly posted on the website next week. What’s the big deal? Weird.

Exactly. Seems pretty straightforward. What is there that needs to be hidden?

It’s a full 50k more than we paid at a well-regarded k-2.

I have no doubt it does provide the value. I wish it were cheaper but I’ve never laid awake at night wondering if I’m wasting my $$$. I would do at -$10k in most schools that are not NCS, STA, SFS. Maybe GDS

Can you tell me what the value is? Like can you quantify what makes Sidwell worth 10, 20, 30, 40, 50k more than other schools? I would be curious to know.

Name brand. You can go anywhere in the country, and many places around the world, and the name Sidwell is known. Not true for most of these other schools.

No adults are impressed by what private school you went to. It does mark you as coming from significant wealth but that’s about it.

That you don’t actually care about the issue but to stir the pot. That the issue could be addressed maturely. And that it’s basic to it share internal communications. Have you noticed how no one else does that?

It’s a big deal to me because it appears motivated by cheap thrills. And it’s also mindbogglingly uncouth.

You could have summarized and posted, and then had a decent discussion like the other OP did. Or in fact joined that thread if you really “wanted to have a conversation”. Which you don’t and everyone saw you through and called you out. Seems pretty straightforward.

Except I - the straightforward poster - am not the OP. Are you the PP who maturely threw a fake tantrum?

Fight fire with fire. Or in this case, what’s the word, troll with troll?

You cannot possibly believe this. Wow, you live in a very small bubble.

I just don’t think the OP is genuine. The other thread has a much better discussion. And there’s another with better facts.

Damn that is a painful amount of money for 14 years.

No one in New England is impressed by Sidwell.

Ouch, I’m shook. 😂

A year at Sidwell costs nearly 4 yrs of UMD tuition in ‘23-‘24.

Also, the house I grew up in is worth approximately all of tuition spent in grades pk-1.

And $55,000 for Upper School tuition is ludicrous - also it's a 6.75% increase from this year so I guess Upper School is carrying the heaviest part of that "blended" increase

Just did the math, K-2 is a 5.25% increase from last year, so I guess a smaller increase to keep the sticker price under $50K for one more year is another part of the "blend"

9% increase for US! Seriously!!

Yes, I wish these schools were cheaper across the board. I also think that the right way to think about the Big 3 is the delta from the next tier and that’s more than worth it in my opinion.

Given the inflation (HEPI applicable to education at 5.8% in December and the inflation around 7%) the increase is rational. I hope there’s an even more robust fin aid to assist more children. What is missing from the landscape are academic and art scholarships.

What people forget us that all the well known schools cost about the same (ballpark). As a rational consumer, for the price anywhere in that 40-55 (and most are in the 50-55), one should want the best of the best. So I’d expect any drop in the applications due to the fees to hit the 3rd and 2nd tier first. And not affect the top schools at all. So if you’re sending a kid to the private school and that’s the price, SFS is the safest investment.

Should you instead buy them a house, a yacht, set up a trust fund, and go to a public? Maybe so. Personal choice.

But they wouldn't be able to brag about that! That's one expensive yard sign!
