You know there was an overdose at Yorktown recently? This is not a rough neighborhood issue. |
You sound like the kind of person who thinks prescription drugs are fine, because they're safe and regulated and don't lead to abuse. |
there was no overdose AT yorktown. stop fear mongering. |
| No one said SROs were the only solution, but should be *part* of the solution. Nothing will stop all drug issues at school, but having an SRO on site could help stop the pipeline or, at least, make kids think twice and make healthier decisions. |
That’s what I’ve always heard, but I haven’t seen the stats. |
|
The bathrooms aren't the issue. These kids are taking pills. They can take pills anywhere.
The issue is the drug. The issue is WHY they take the drug. The issue is WHY they want to feel the way the drug makes them feel to escape from their real lives. We need to fix that. And this is not a good neighborhood vs bad neighborhood problem. |
It isn’t. Many cops are drug addicts and even drug dealers, and when they’re caught under the influence they blame it on this absolute falsehood of “exposure.” |
+1 There are some high achieving (grade wise) students who think if you take Adderall you are able to focus more. (obviously, these are students without a prescription). The pressure on them from middle school to get into a top college is real. Fake Adderall is one of the pills that contains fentanyl. |
This. A student at my son's college died last year after taking illicit "adderall" that had fentanyl. DD is a senior at W-L and recently told me she hadn't realized until this Fall how many of the high achieving kids are coping with the pressure with drinking and drugs. It's at all the high schools and both good students and slackers. |
Not that this is the only reason, of course, but we have a whole generation of teenagers who just witnessed firsthand their parents cope with “pandemic stress” with heavy drinking. |
YES. Need return of the SRO. Imo it doesn’t have to be a person who is actively with the Police Department. It could be anyone who is a local government employee, trained in de-escalation and various safety and emergency procedures. |
Would you say that all Arlington High Schools are affected about equally by drugs/illicit pills being sold/traded/taken etc on school grounds? My kids are not in HS yet. |
PP- ALL HS period. Not just arlington. |
| Side note for any who know, why are dealers lacing drugs with fentanyl? Isn't their goal to hook people and therefore make money selling drugs? Why are they lacing drugs with something deadly which one would think means it's killing off their customers? |
1. Its cheaper. A pin prick of fentanyl gives a high, so the rest of the pill is filler. So they get more $$$. They aren't ALL purposely trying to kill their clients. 2. It's not always a bad thing when your customers have an overdose - it means your pills are potent... which means addicts want it. Its a sad sad business. |
