How do I write the name in the address of a sympathy card to an aunt whose husband recently died?

No, just no. Use her actual first name and whatever last name she used. Women are not their husbands’ property!

I'm not my husband's property, but I'm very happy to be Mrs. HIS FIRST NAME OUR LAST NAME

🤮

I agreed with 🤮. Get back in the kitchen. Your hubbykins is hungry.

I hope that you'll learn that we should never be "done" with the preference of the person you're writing. It's not all about YOU.

I think if you know what the person would have liked before their loss, or you addressed things to them before their loss, then continuing with that makes sense, and if you don't know and can't find out (e.g. does your mom or dad know?) then I'd go with Mrs. Lastname on the envelope. Obviously, inside it would be Aunt Larla.

But I'm still really puzzled by the fact that some people think you should write sympathy cards that don't remind people that they've lost someone. I don't have a clue how that would work.

Dear Aunt Larla,

I am so sorry that something happened.

Love,

Larlette
